How can I get odor out of vintage sheets?

I have some vintage sheets that I want to make party banners from, but they have that "smell" that old stuff from the thrift store sometimes have. I've washed them three times, already. Once with detergent, once with detergent and oxy clean and once in that stuff in the orange bottle that my husband uses on his hunting clothes to get scent out (I can't remember the name). They smell exactly like they did when I brought them home.

Any suggestions?

You could try vinegar. I use 1/4 cup white vinegar in a downy ball with most of my wash, especially the stuff that my kitten pees on. It gets the smell out really well.

How did it do that? 1/4 cup of vinegar in the rinse cycle, and now those sheets smell like sunshine and unicorn farts! Thanks, WiccaWife, for that suggestion.
