Black grout in shower

Thread Starter
How do I get rid of the black stuff on the grout in the shower? I just want it gone. Is there a way to do that without redoing it all? I'm having a baby in another month and I would really like to be able to actually feel comfortable using my tub and right now the black stuff grosses me out too much.

I'm not above using bleach, I just don't know how to do that most effectively in this case. Thoughts?

Also thoughts on how to stop it from coming back?

I think the spray cleaners that have bleach and are made for mold do better than just straight bleach. I think it was tilex mold and mildew that I tried. It gives me a headache, though. Open windows, spray and let it for a few hours before rinsing. Then maybe try spraying vinegar after every shower to keep on top of it.

I use Clorox Clean Up on mine, just spray & leave and then come back later to rinse. It works well!

I would try bleach on a toothbrush or one of the spray products. I think the mould would be more harmful to your family's health than a bit of bleach.

bleach on a tooth brush sounds like a good idea. letting bleach sit for a bit sounds good too to really work at it.

As for keeping it gone, have you ever resealed your bathroom? one of my favorite blogs talks about it here http://www.younghouselove.com/2010/0...to-seal-grout/

and the suggestion to spray vinegar after showers is a good one too. My grandma has done that since before I was born Just spray on the wet walls. The water will trickle it all down to rinse.
