inducing period with hormones?

Thread Starter
my doc wants to induce my period with hormones since it is over three months since my last. i am 37 and have never had an irregular period with the exception of the last six months. i have now gone every other month a few times and once before three months. i have had a difficult time with bladder control lately, also, but haven't had an all-out accident. in process of finding new doc who wishes to find the cause rather than blindly treat, hoping to find an answer without finding the question.

i have lost 80 pounds over the last two years, but most of it in the first year. only about ten in the last. i exercise about 7-10 hours a week (light running and vinyasa yoga). i eat very healthy.

really don't wanna take the meds, but my doc keeps telling me that it is really bad to go past three months without a period.

anyone experience or have knowledge. haven't been lucky searching google and finding good info.

tia!

Did you already try an herbal induction? -lot of vit C, black/blue cohosh. etc

you have ruled out being preggers- correct?

have the found any reason why you are not bleeding- elevated levels, etc?

I would first do a hormone panel and a sonogram to see what's going on.

do you plan to have more children?

what is the history of menopause in your family? could you be in early menopause. my mom had early menopause and i followed in her footsteps too.

i dont understand why missing periods is so bad? but yeah its a good idea to get a second opinion.

and no. hormone therapy is my absolute last resort.

I would insist on bloodwork and u/s to determine why the irreglar periods. There has to be a reason. Could be early menopause or a hormonal imbalance, lack of fat in the diet, etc.

I would only use herbs to help regulate your cycles....not to actually induce menstruation.

The adrenals, the thyroid, and the sex hormones all interrelate hormonal regulation in the body. Check the symptoms of adrenal fatigue, hypo and hyper thryoid. See if you can get a saliva cortisol test (ASI is one, need 4 samples throughout the day for accurate test) and a good thyroid panel (I think you need to get free T3 and I'm not sure what else, look at a good thyroid thread on here, there is tons of info). I think a missing period is a sign these are off. If these are off, then it is a sign that there is an underlying problem, a stress on the system, which is often a low level chronic infection that cannot be picked up through regular testing. GAPS diet can be very healing in this situation. Do you already take probiotics?
