I wasnt sure where to post this hope this is ok?

So i have always been a really good eater, i eat really healthy, mostly organic lots of fruit, salad, organic meats,100% whole grains healthy fats, yogurt ect....My problem is that my prenatals vitamins gave me horrible constipation i was miserable so i stopped taking them and now im totally back to normal, but i feel bad that im not taking vitamins. Is any one not taking prenatals who eat really good? Maybe i can find a prenatal with less iron? Do i really need them if im eating healthy? I rarely eat junk food and sweets once in a while i have some vanilla ice cream. Any opinions ladies? I just want to make sure the baby is getting enough as well as myself.I dont wantto get to much of some thing like vit a.I do have a whole foods prenatal that you take 6 a day which i cant do maybe if i just took 2 a day id be ok... I have an appt on the 9th andi will bring this up to my ob,but id like some opinions on this thanks.

I eat pretty well, but not super-healthy, and I just take a regular multi-vitamin. There isn't that much difference between the vitamin count in a cheap, generic multi-vitamin and that in a prenatal vitamin, from what I've seen. I took extra folic acid in the first trimester, too.

I had constipation through the 1st and 2nd trimester, and seem to be having a bit of a break from it now, but it could just be pregnancy, not the vitamin, which was causing your constipation.

maybe just take an additional calcium and folic pill instead of the whole thing, then look for a normal multi that does not give you issues?

I am not taking one as of this week, I am 16 weeks. Before that I was taking just 1/2 the dose and before that I was taking a one-day vitamin. I was told I could take a childrens too. I don't eat healthy because I have hypermesis, so I barely eat enough and what I do eat is not healthy because I have so many aversions. But I can't get or keep the pill down without it upsetting my stomach.

I did take a lot of folic acid through vitamins and I was drinking lots of OJ before I got pregnant and before I started to get sick.

I am taking calcium/mag/vit D supplement, but the pre-natal upsets my stomach. By the way, magnesium does help with constipation, mine was terrible with zofran and it's almost normal now. Most prenatals don't have enough anyway and most people are deficient. It has been a lifesaver to me. It takes about a week for it to kick in though.

When I switched over to New Chapter prenatals, all of my stomach/constipation issues went away. They're a whole food vitamin, super gentle. I don't think there's too much iron in there, if you need more I've heard Floradix is a good iron supplement that won't cause constipation.

That said, I don't take the recommended 3 a day of the prenatal, I usually just take one and sometimes two because I do try to get what I need from actual food. It also helps stretch them out, because $40 for 90 pills is pretty steep.

I have rainbow light 6x a day; however, I take it twice a day (3 at a time). Could that possibly work for you?

My prenatals are okay but what's really odd is that I notice whenever I up my fiber I feel super uncomfortable intestinally.

I suddenly start getting sharp pains and discomfort.

It's kind of frustrating.

For a while I just stopped eating well, started just eating junk foods and I felt SO much better.

I can't bring myself to eat junk food anymore and not nourish my baby / body so now I am just back to being stuck with pains and discomfort....

Oh well, I guess.......
