Is this teething? ARGH

DS is almost 4 mos and lately he's been super fussy, seemingly without reason. However, I noticed that he's trying to shove EVERYTHING in his mouth, and not just exploring it, literally shoving it in his mouth and gumming it. If he can't get it into his mouth he screams. He's been pretty fussy with nursing, popping on and off the breast. I figured since it might be his gums I gave him a frozen washcloth to suck on and he loved it. He really gets fussy right after nursing.

He's been drooling a lot since 8 weeks old which the ped said was due to the salivary glands developing. Last time he was there, which was 2 weeks ago, the ped said there was no sign of any teeth. I looked in his mouth today and didn't notice any swollen or red gums.

Did your DC start having teething-like symptoms even before there was visible proof?

My ped said these were normal 4 month milestones, unrelated to teething. Which isnt to say that teeth arent involved, but they may not be.

But yes, my guy is fussy long before we can see a tooth pushing through.

Cece, also almost 4 months, has all of those symptoms, plus a tooth just below the surface. I think it definitely could be teething for your LO! We found that Hyland's tablets work really well for Cecilia-- they don't drug her or make her weird, they just help her be calmer.

Where do I get the hylands tablets?

ds started teething at around 3 months (lucky us) and had all those symptoms a while before the first actual tooth. We also love the Hyland's teething tablets, you can pick them up at any drug store or Whole Foods if you have one nearby.

Mine acted like that for about 4 months before the first tooth. My sympathies if that is the case...

When DS was about 4 months, everyone kept telling me he was teething b/c he was doing the same thing. I didn't believe them b/c his doc said no signs of teeth and I didn't feel anything (of course, I didn't know what I was really feeling for). Plus, I didn't get my first tooth until I was 13 months, so I was really not expecting it. However, about one week later, his first tooth broke through.....so, I wouldn't rule it out.

I got my Hyland's teething tablets at our grocery store, but I've seen them in Walgreens, Babies'r'us and several other places.

The first time I used them, though it freaked me out b/c DS had been screaming and whining for several hours and then when I gave the tablets to him, he fell into a VERY deep sleep almost immediately. Aparently, it was just b/c he was finally out of pain and could rest.
