I fell into my WAHM career entirely by accident, and it rocks. I am a policy advisor for a national environmental conservation organization. I started in April 2008 and worked through December 2009. I took 7 months off and have re-started my contract. With my first contract, I worked from home about 85% of the time and spent about 15% of the time in the field. It worked out well for me.
With my current contract, I work 100% from home researching the political backgrounds of specific elected officials to determine whether they would be likely to support an environmental conservation movement in their district. I also write policy documents and press releases, draft legislation, and develop statewide strategy plans. For this work, I receive $5,000 per month and my current contract lasts 2 years. I'm loving this right now because there's a HUGE diversity in my daily workload. And it's meaningful work, too.
I am still looking for a "real" job becuase I'm ready for a change and would like to move my family. I plan on keeping my contract for as long as possible, while working a "real" job, too.

I am a software developer, which lends itself well to WAH (and is just plain fun
). I just started doing some work for my old boss at the new company he works for (I am 100% WAH - he even WAH most days), and it's been great! Plus, a lot of developers are self-taught, all you need are the interest/drive & a computer.

I've been a wah as a dressmaker for the last 12 years. The first 3 years part time while I worked ft as a seamstress at a bridal shop. For the last 9 years, it's been ft wah and pt woh. I mostly do historical clothing for reenactors but I also do alterations. My work history has all been in the sewing field for the last 33-34 years. I've gone back and worth between working at home and working in a shop for all that time, depending on family needs.

You could make and decorate cakes.
I do sales and marketing management from home, 30 hours a week. I used to work for a large & excellent company in my field. I left there and started working with little tiny companies as a consultant. I just took what I was doing and transferred it to a smaller arena. It's working out really well.
