My 13-month DD sleeps with me and consistently wakes every 2-3 hours (been doing this since 4 months). She generally goes down without much trouble, but she never stays asleep. For the first two wakings, I can usually settle her with a pacifier, but by the third she'll only take the breast. While I don't love the arrangement (DH sleeps on the couch), I've never taken any serious measures to change it. At most I bought a futon mattress for her room, but it's still in its shrink wrap.

But now I'm pregnant again, and suddenly there's this deadline for moving her into her own bed (I'm also wondering if I should encourage weaning, though that's another topic entirely). I know a lot can change in nine months, from the the other postings I've read, it doesn't seem abnormal for a 2-year-old to have consistent night wakings. My plan is to set up the futon (finally!) and to start giving her a sippy cup of cow's milk at bedtime (so far she's only had breastmilk). Sound good? Any other suggestions? Obviously I'm thrilled about the new baby, but I'm nervous, too, because I don't think DD is ready for this.
