Sudden and temporarily swollen feet?

So tonight again and once a few weeks ago I found my feet swelling pretty fast (within a hour maybe) and both times I seem to able to relieve it by elevating them.

I know swelling is par for the course sometimes, but I'm wondering if this is how it usually happens? If this up and down is normal or not, do we know what triggers it?
I certainly know the normal things that generally incur age more or less swelling, I guess it was the sudden part that catches me off guard.

I swell so slowly most of the time that I don't notice it until the end of the day. BUT sometimes my ankles will go from not at all swollen to extremely swollen in a very short period of time. 30-60 mins. I've noticed it happens if I am hot and sit with my feet hanging down without moving them for a little while. If I get up and move around or put them up MOST of the swelling will go away quickly and the rest will go away by morning.

ITA about heat and feet hanging for a while causing quick swelling. Anytime you're dealing with a lot of heat it can happen, too. It may just be an issue of "normal" pregnancy circulation issues coupled with it being the heat of summer, perhaps augmented by some amount of dehydration. The fact that elevating helps relieve it is very good!

Yeah it is by no means hot here today, but maybe I still need to step up my water intake, i did have a long day.
If this keeps happening is it something my doc needs to hear about?

My MW always asks about swelling, so I'd mention it at my regular appointment if it continues on occasion like that. Definitely see about increasing water intake. It seems one can never have enough! The more active you are, the more you'll need, too.

I agree. I would mention it to your midwife/ob at your next appointment but I don't think its any cause for alarm. I have had it happen through last pregnancy and this pregnancy and everything is ok. I also end up pitting when I swell which freaked the heck out of my ob when she asked about it. I explained that it is totally normal for me though and has happened to every woman in our family when they swell....pregnant or not.

cool thats about what i thought, i will redouble my water habits, and bring it up next time i see my midwife in two weeks.
i guess mostly i wanted to keep an eye on it to make sure there was not a particular trigger that i should be avoiding. but i did not eat anything unusual or high sodium yesterday so i think it was just life.
