What to serve for dinner on "Pirate Day"

We are having a self-declared "Pirate Day" on Saturday. We will be decorating some treasure boxes and then going for a nature hike to find treasures. We have a few other activities planned, but I was looking for something fun to make for dinner that goes with our theme.

I'm thinking seafood for sure, but feeling pretty un-creative beyond that point. We like shrimp a lot, but mostly make it into stir fries or pasta dishes, and I don't know if pirates like Italian food or not .

Beef jerky and limes?

Beef jerky = hardtack, since they had no means of refrigeration to keep meat fresh.
Limes/citrus fruit was used to prevent scurvy.

Hmm, just to give variety I may mix the menu with a wee bit of medieval:
-turkey or chicken drumsticks
-sloppy stuff over rice/potatoes etc

My first thought was limes too. Maybe lots of limeade to drink or a key lime pie for dessert?

My other thought was "swill" - didn't lowly sea-goers eat a lot of swill and hardtack biscuits? Something stew-like (clam chowder?) with dumplings or biscuits.

Paella?

There have been pirates since viking times, so the food varies with the story right? I'd just make a feast with plenty of everyones favorites, and maybe get big goblet style cups for lots of cheering! Sounds like so much fun!!!

limeade, turkey legs, can you make something look like gold coins in a treasure chest or something? maybe for dessert? I do think key lime pie would make a great dessert

Mmm, paella sounds good! I love the goblet idea as well.

I was actually leaning more towards carribean fare. I'm excited! I think we'll find some pirate hats too.

I would think Caribbean food first as well but Spanish food would also be great.

It sounds like so much fun!
