Ideas for 1st birthday party?

Thinking about doing the zoo or something not at home, but they only have a package for 2 year old+ that is $1000! So I am wondering if anyone else has ideas for an off-site party? There will only be 2 or 3 kids at the 1st birthday.

Do you have a park/ cafe/ special place you go to now? A first b-day is more for the parents IMO then the baby. Just pick a place that is special to you, have a treat, play, and then nap

All my kids have had their first b-day parties at home- setting up a kiddie pool or sand box in the yard makes for all the entertainment you need.

Go to the Zoo anyways! Assuming your Zoo allows outside food etc....pack a fun lunch and cupcakes, take the parents along too and make a day of it...it'll cost waaaay less than the party fees ( we recently went to the Seattle Zoo and it was great, lots of shady picnic areas that could easily be set up for a party....I truthfully have issues with Zoos and caged animals, but Seattle was as nice as humane as I've seen)

Does your area have a Gymboree/Gymnastics/PlayZone/ChuckECheese*a bit older IMO but sometimes they have toddler rides etc.

Petting Zoo, WaterPark, Forest Picnic, Beach (set up tents & toys for fun in the shade)
