ds has swollen penis and hurts when he walks

hello. my ds has been complaining of his penis hurting since last night. it didn't look red then, but today it looks red and is twice as big, plus he is in a lot of pain when he walks. it also hurts to touch it. this has happened before, though it never hurt for him to walk. when it happened before i thought it was normal, cause when he'd go pee, i could see it balloon, and also something came out that looked like a pearl, so i thought it was smegma, plus his penis went back to normal. can boys go through different time of retracting? i'd really appreciate any advice. we don't have insurance, so i am hoping we don't have to.

This can happen when the foreskin starts to separate; a warm baking soda bath can sooth the symptoms. It shouldn't last more than 24-48 hours. Check this thread for details: http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=764732

How old is your DS? Does he have any kind of fever along with this?

he is 6 years old, and no fever. we put ice on it and he seems to be doing better, though it is still big. we did a bath with baking soda, and he said it felt better in the bath, but as soon as he stood up and started walking he was saying it hurt again.

OUCH!!! My nephew has super sensitive skin and this happened to him after a bubble bath, it was intensely painful and he did need to go to the Dr's,he needed a topical steroid type thing OUCH!!! I'd take him to a dr, especially since it hurts him to move/walk.

Sounds like he may have a bit of infection either yeast or possibly bacteria. You can use OTC monistat first and see if it helps then move on to the OTC bacatracin. If you have a foreskin knowledgeable Dr. you can always have a culture done to see what/if any thing grows.

Is it hurting to walk b/c the pain is up in the abdomen or scrotum, or just b/c of the way things rub against the penis? If the pain is in the abdomen or scrotum, I would be concerned that more is going on than just run of the mill foreskin irritation.

This happened to ds two or three times. It freaks me out. Once I took him to the dr for it, and he was treated with antibiotics. Not sure if that was really the appropraite route, but it cleared up quickly and I did not want him to be in pain.
I don't think it was separation in ds case, because he still cannot retract...

This is totally normal during separation of the foreskin for some boys. From what you have said sounds like his foreskin is reacting to this normal phase of development. Good news is that nothing needs to be done. Just give him some soaks in the warm bath and let it pass. Here are some articles that can help you understand what is going on:
