Yellow Cucumbers - whats going on?

I am off garden duty this year bec of our new LO, so DH is in charge.

We have had many great cukes so far, but now we have had 3 of them turn yellow??? Anyone know what is going on? Man are they sour

I suspect they are staying on the vine to long. Could this be the case?

We have only been gardening for 3 summers & have not come across this before.

That sounds like you let them get too big.

This is my first year of cucumbers and mine turned yellow too. Actually, the last one never got green. It stayed pale. The first cuke was green and it was about the same size.

If they're yellowing and they were formerly green, they're basically setting seed. They'll be too off tasting to eat, but if it's an heirloom and didn't cross-pollinate with another cucurbit (I think that's the species?), let 'em hang out and you've got seed for next year.

If they were yellow from infancy, they weren't pollinated correctly by your neighborhood insects or your paintbrush, and they won't taste good either from what I've heard.

We ate the yellow cucumber this evening and it was rather sweet. It tasted almost like watermelon but was very white inside. I picked the last two small cucumbers and they were half normal shape and color and half bulbous and yellow. The rest of the plant is starting to die. I assumed it was the heat but could this be from some sort of pest?
