Is Dh washing diapers correctly?? He wants to bleach them.

Ds was born 9 days ago. Dh is washing the dipes. We are using prefolds, a few fleece fitteds, and then whisperwraps. We have a new LG FL washer/dryer.
We are using All F&C. Max number of diapers being washed is about 15.

Dh washes the diapers like this...
Starts with soap up to the '2' line

Prewash with a bit of the soap.
Sanatary cycle with the rest of the soap.
Extra water feature
Extra rinse feature

Dries in dryer at towel/cotton.

The diapers seem clean, no smell, however they have started getting a
small, quarter size, yellow poop stain on them. Dh wants to
bleach on them to get the yellow out.

I don't want them bleached but I have no real reason why.

So, what do we do??? Are the diapers being washed correctly?

First, huge congrats to you on your lovely newbie!

Your wash routine sounds good, since you're having no stink. To get the stains out, lay the prefolds out in the sun on a blanket, or hang them on a line. You can spray with lemon juice first, but don't have to. It really works! I wouldn't do bleach, especially not on a regular basis. Some parents use a TINY bit of bleach for stubborn stink, but not usually for stains. Regular bleach use will wear the diapers out faster. Breast milk poo stains never bothered me, though, as long as the diapers smelled clean.

Thanks!!!

I'll have him lay them out tomorrow. The stains don't bother me either.

Another trick is to fill the sink with straight hot water and a scoop of oxygyn cleaner (like oxyclean or sun oxygyn) and let them sit over night. Works like a charm when you can't sun.

Awesome by the way that your DH is doing diaper laundry, what a guy!

Congrats on the new family member!

I was skeptical at first, but sunning works amazingly well for EBF stains. I know sone people use bleach once in a while for stink/stains, but just a little bit - in a front loader I'd try one tablespoon of bleach in the hot wash, maybe once month.

Also, I have an LG front loader and I have found I have more success if I do a full cold wash first with no soap, rather than using the prewash feature. My prewash is only 16 minutes, and while it worked fine at first it doesn't seem to be enough to rinse all the pee out now. Though I don't have an extra water setting, I'm sure that makes a difference.
