How old was your babe when...

he/she slept through the night. My son who is 2 months old needed to spend 5 hours with my parents yesterday because we had to take our older son to get his eyes checked out. They both did well, but the babe didn't really nap well at all.

Our sleep schedule is usually he goes to bed at 7pm
wakes at 11-12 and eats goes back to sleep
wakes at 3:30-4 eats goes back to sleep
wakes at 6ish eats and is either awake or goes back to sleep.

Well...he went to bed at 7pm and it's almost 2am and he hasn't woken up. My breasts are about to explode, but I don't want to pump for fear of him waking up. If my memory serves me right, my older son pulled this too and it became a permanent thing (which was fantastic - gave me a chance to really build a milk supply for day care)

My question - how old was your babe when he/she slept through?

My 7 month-old wakes at least once, most likely 2-3 times per night. But I usually work late into the night, so my "night" often goes late into other people's mornings...

Cecilia was about 2 months when she began sleeping for 5-6 hours at night. She is now nearly 4 months old. Our night generally looks like this:

Bed at 8-9
Nurse at 2-3
Up for the day at 5-6.

Three and a half weeks. But babies are so different from each other it seems useless to compare. Some kids sleep a bunch, some are up every hour. Eventually it will even out.

10 months here and he has 1-2 wakings over his 12hr sleep nite. normally 7-7, or abouts there.

He got to two wakes per night about 5 months (vs 4), and then regressed at 6 months, and regressed at 8 months. There were times when he miraculously STTN, and these days, happens quite often. But I certainly wouldn't call it normal. And absolutely not normal until 9-10months.

DS has been pretty consistent with one wake for at least a month. Yay! I call that serious progress!!

At four months he was sleeping 6 hour stretches (waking once at 3 or 4 am to nurse for 10 minutes and back down till 8 or 9 am). By 6 months he was sleeping straight through the night (down at 8pm up at 7 or 8am).

My first was 9 months. Just previous to that he was waking once to nurse.

My 5 month old goes to sleep at 9:30 and wakes around 2 or 3 to nurse (and then again a few hours later)

All over the place. She has occasionally slept 5 hours stretches (the medical definition of STTN), but usually from 9-7 wakes 2-3 times, sometimes more. She is 7.5 months old. I dream of the time when I can consistently get a 3-4 hour stretch at night. Currently it's only 2-3 times a week.

We got lucky and our baby has slept through the night since day 1!!! We were not so lucky in other departments, though. For example he's just now at 9 weeks outgrowing his crying-and-fussing-all-the-time phase, and as a compromise for the solid nights he has difficulty napping sometimes.

When I say sleep through, I mean he does feed at night, but he sleeps next to me and I am barely conscious of it, so I couldn't tell you when it is. I doubt he fully wakes up either. He goes to bed around 10pm (working on moving that earlier) and wakes up for the day at about 6am....sometimes I can convince him to go back to sleep until 8 or so, though.

I agree it's pointless to compare. Every baby is unique and will meet milestones and "do" certain things in their own time.

all of mine were about 1 yr, give or take a few months. They would sleep for a good long stretch for the first part of the night, then wake to nurse in the wee hours of the morning, then sleep for another 3 or 4 hours.

There were the occaisionally nights of long sleeps, but they never "stuck". Actually, my 4th child sttn at 4mths but it caused a serious drop in my milk supply, so I set my alarm and woke him until he went back to doing it himself.

I have five kids and five different answers to your question! My oldest didn't sleep through the night until he was four. I don't mean a few night wakings every now and then (as happens with everyone, myself included, every once in a while) - I mean awake, out of bed, coming to my room for one thing or another. Another one of my children slept through the night her first day home from the hospital. It wasn't a regular thing, but she has always been a good sleeper.

Some kids need stricter schedules than others. My 4yo knows when she's had enough and will lay on her bed or the couch and take a catnap in the middle of the day. My 2yo will fight sleep for hours before suddenly zonking out mid-tantrum. Because of that, the 2yo's schedule is stricter than the 4yo's, because he wouldn't regulate himself at all otherwise.

My 1st starting sleeping through the night around 6 weeks (and quickly moved to 12hrs stretches). She went through a stage of regular night wakings after she turned a year old and still wakes up occasionally at night. (like once or twice a week).

My 2nd is 6 months old and not even close to sleeping through the night. I don't really anticipate her starting any time soon, since she doesn't even have a long stretch at the beginning of the night; its usually less than 2 hours.

Mine will be 2 years old next month and he still doesn't STTN every night. Most nights he wakes 1-2 times. And the only reason he sleeps as well as he does now is because we nightweaned at 19 months.

He's 10m and has never slept more than 5 hours at a stretch. Normally wakes to nurse 3-4x a night--over an 11 hour night sleep.
I am getting seriously sleep deprived, but on the bright side, my milk supply has been great and my cycles haven't returned.

Around 4 months old, my son would sleep for 3-5 hour stretches. By 10 months old, he was sleeping solid 6 hour stretches consistently. And around 13 months I nightweaned him. He's now 16 months and most nights will sleep a solid 11 hours without waking, and if he does, all he needs is his soothie and his blanket and he falls right back asleep.

My son didn't even come close to STTN until I night weaned him (due to pregnancy) at 2 1/2 years. My 9 month old is up 3-6 times per night.

DD is 9 months and gave me a 7-hour and a 5-hour stretch this week. Wow! Usually it's not more than 3 hours at a time, though.

And before 7 months? The sleep deprivation was so bad I'm still not able to look back and think about it.
