Storing games and puzzles

What do you think is the best location, as in piece of furniture, for storing games and puzzles? We have a lot of them. We are homeschoolers, and we like to play a lot of games. But the games are in like 5 different locations throughout the house. And no one can ever find what they want or knows where to put back what they got out. I want one spot for all the games, puzzles, etc, because it is a big part of homeschooling. My kids learn so much playing games.

I feel like ideally, the best thing would be to have some built in book shelves all along one wall in the family room, but since that is just a dream for right now, what is the next best thing? I have tried a dresser, but then there are some that don't fit, or you can't see what's on the bottom in the drawer, etc.

Should I just find a bookshelf and stack them on a shelf? I liked the idea of a dresser or something drawers because it hides the clutter.

Any ideas?

Where do you store games and puzzles?

You have reminded me that I need to do something about our pile of games...like get rid of most of them!

I need to cull the ones that the kids no longer play with, and put the rest in a cupboard. They are all sitting in a pile in the corner of the lounge room right now, collecting dust!

I debated getting a cabinet type of thing with doors, but for now, they are partially on a bookshelf in the living room and then the other half in a pantry-turned-kid-storage area. We have way too many too.

Ours are out of control - we keep adult games and most of the kids' games in our coat closet in the foyer, then my 7-yr old has 6 or so in his closet (the high-frequency games).

My friend has this large, lovely trunk that she uses as a coffee table that is filled with their games - I always loved that idea, but do not want to clutter my LR with another piece of furniture, lol!

We have a lot of really nice games (that do get played). We have industrial shelving in our utility room where we store games. When we build our dream house, I would love to have a walk in closet off of the main living area (living room, kitchen, etc.) with shelves to house games and art supplies.

I like the white pantry type cupboards for games, as we tried having them out on the shelves and all these ugly cardboard boxes of different sizes/shapes/colours looked so awful in the play room. This is the type of thing I want to get....

Not really pretty, but tidy and functional. But at the moment we would have nowhere to put it, so ours are pretty much like yours- wherever they fit.

We keep compact games like card games and games for the littlest kids on a shelf in the dining room where they get used the most, and are within reach.
The big box games, more complicated games, lengthier play games I keep in the linen closet, these are also the games that the little ones are not able to play yet. I decluttered it last year, cutting back on fabric items and now there is plenty of room for all the games. We are in a small house, so the linen closet is not that far from the main living and dining room where the games get used the most.

We play all our games in the 'dining room' (used to be the family room, but the actual dining area in our house couldn't fit the six of us, let alone any guests around the table) so I put up those closet maid hang track shelves all along one wall and we have all our games stacked on those shelves. My husband likes that he can always see what we have (he forgets), I just like how simple it is to put them away (so even the 2yo always puts them back).
