Have any of you ever had a midwife let you pay her a chunk of your payment AFTER the baby was born? I'm thinking more along the lines like a few weeks after the baby is here.
In my last city, there is just one m/w who let me finish paying after the baby was born. My current m/w does not even bill until after the baby is due. I would ask them upfront if they allow it.
My midwifes financial agreement specifically states it must be paid by 36 weeks UNLESS arrangements are made at the time of signing... so if you haven't signed a financial agreement yet, its worth asking about at least.
yes, it too a while to pay my midwife the first time (I think DD was 6 months old we to use our tax return) with the second we scraped left and right because we wanted the early pay discount. We're trying to figure out if we can swing it by 37 weeks this time...
We meet with our midwife next week, when we discussed it via email we can settle on a monthly amount and then I should be able to pay her the rest of the amount in lump after the baby is born.. We'll have a bonus check coming in March that will cover the remaining amount.
Amazingly, our insurance will cover most of our HB MW's fees so we won't be paying her anything until after the baby is born and the birth has been billed to insurance.
I am paying a deposit and then after she bills the insurance company, we will settle the "account" so to speak. So, yes, for me, that is what we are doing....
these are all great, thanks guys! gives me hope! we havent signed any sort of payment arrangement contract yet. i too want to use my tax return to pay for a chunk of the bill.

where in TX are you? I'm just south of Austin.
i am in fort worth but the midwife im seeing is in dallas. i dont think the early discount applies to me since the insurance is supposed to be covering the prenatal care. i just need to come up with the cost of the actual homebirth.
My midwife (NMD, actually) has said that as long as I keep making regular payments I can take as long as I need to finish paying her. She also gave me a discount based on my being on AHCCCS (medicaid).
Yeah... I got an "uninsured" discount. I'm not uninsured, but my insurance will not cover her (for very complicated reasons, its specifically her home birthing for me that it would not cover, it would... if I jumped through the right hoops... cover a midwife, just not this particular one, as it covers her in-hospital)
