Sore nipple out of nowhere?

I have been EBF my DS, and had some issues with positioning in the past, which led to sore nipples. I saw a LC who helped us and solved everything. I have been nursing pain free since DS was about 6 weeks old. He's now 16 weeks, and for some reason my left nipple is sore. It doesn't look any different, it doesn't hurt when he latches, it's just generally irritated, like when the fabric of my shirt rubs against it.

The only thing that has kind of changed is that I'm doing side lying nursing at night a lot more often than I did in the beginning. It just seems odd to me that it's only my left side, and it's seemingly for no reason. Any thoughts? It's not terribly painful, just kind of annoying.

Hi Mama,
That must be difficult for you to be dealing with. There are two ideas that come to my mind when I read your email: either a poor latch on that side, or maybe developing thrush.
Good luck,
