I just came across your post and it reminded me so much of my journey. I have been suffering with problems since I was 19 and over the years things just seemed to go from bad to worse. I am now 46 years old and have had many Dr's tell me my symptoms were basically in my head, they would say I am apparently healthy because the "proof was in the pudding" meaning because I carry a few extra pounds and look healthy that there couldn't be a serious problem other than loose weight. This past summer after I had surgery for some female issues I found myself with neurological problems on top of my life long stomach issues, heavy periods, legs swelling, inability to loose weight, joint pain that traveled, headaches, eye dropping, skin rashes, dry mouth, cold sensitivity and an overall feeling that food was poison to me. After my mainstream medical Dr. ran a MRI to see if my new symptoms may be MS which were ruled out he said to see a back Dr. I new my symptoms were all linked together and progressively getting worse as I got older. I went to a chiropractor who is a diploma neurologist and partner with a certified nutritionist, she sat with me for an hour listening to my life long issues, I felt like that crazy person when I finished talking, how could a person have so many problems, BUT she never looked at me like I was crazy, she said I believe you are sick and I have a few ideas. She ran a battery of blood work and found that I had multiple issues, first I have a list of intolerant foods and Gliadins being one of them which is in the gluten family. Tapioca is a severe intolerance but on top of food intolerance's (tested negative for Celiac) my blood work showed that I have an autoimmune disorder called Hashimoto's Disease. This is where your body makes antibodies that attack your thyroid hormones. It's not uncommon for thyroid levels to look normal but it's been found that a person with Hashimoto's disorder should have TSH levels on the lower side. Gluten plays a big part in this disease, apparently your body produces a chemical when processing gluten that closely resembles thyroid hormones so your body makes more and more antibodies. These antibodies can also attach to your cerebellum which causes a lot of neurological problems. Hence the reason I need to be gluten free. It plays havoc with your intestinal track and everything so I would ask your Dr. to test you for antibodies. He'll look at you like your crazy as my Dr. did, my chiropractor had me first go back to my regular Dr and ask him to run certain tests and he refused so she sent me for everything she thought necessary. Don't let your Dr. make you think your crazy, push for what you want and if they aren't willing then find another. Most people get diagnosed from a good Chiropractor who treats the whole body (not the run of the mill Chiropractor), main stream medicine treat the symptoms but forget to find the root of the problem and learn how to treat the problem. I would venture to say you are depleted in nutrients, even though your eating your intestines are probably so inflamed that you aren't absorbing all your nutrients which causes a lot of issues as well. Sorry for the long post, hope this may give you pause for thought.
