Candida.....wheat intolerance......dairy intolerance...something else?????

I'm not sure what is going on here. My doctor isn't sure either.

Here are my symptoms:

-increasing weight/difficulty losing

-anxiety attacks

-heart palpitations/fluttery heart

-after eating I get a big bloated stomach and have a bit of a hard time breathing and it feels like I've swallowed a bowling ball. Today after I ate some tapioca pudding I got the bloated stomach, trouble breathing, pain in my chest, and sharp pains in my back.

-same time I get the big bloated stomach and bowling ball stomach I burp up whole chunks of food. I notice this most with dairy which I very rarely consume. If I have a bit of dairy within a few minutes I'm burping it up still in the same form it went down

-depression, anxious, mood swings

-heavy heavy heavy menstrual bleeding (I do have a blood clotting disorder, but gyno and hematologist don't think that it's causing the heavy bleeding)

-zero sex drive. No desire at all.

-sometimes after eating my stomach feels like it's on fire. It burns burns burns.

My youngest son is already off dairy, so that won't be hard to cut out. I'm debating cutting out the wheat, but it all costs more money.

My diet is ok. I will admit I consume a fair amount of sugar. I crave sugar, salty items and cheese.

Not sure if there's anything else that I can add, but I can answer questions!

EDITED TO ADD: remembered a couple more things that might be important. Right before I have what I believe is an anxiety attack, I get really warm. Super sweaty, clammy, and just feels like a warm wave passing through my body. Also.....these symptoms appeared almost immediately after I had major surgery and a really stressfull traumatic event last June.

I had my throid checked about a year and a half ago and was normal. Even tried a small dose of synthroid and my periods disappeared.

Defenitely lactose intolerant.

The thyroid can be more complex than that as I'm finding in my own health!

Well, if you suspect candida overgrowth, which is very possible, you can try a candida diet. Paleo and Primal Blueprint are very close to candida diets, and are easily modifiable to cut out all dairy and fruit. I would say its a good step to try for even a month, and does not need to be expensive. Actually it would probably cheaper since you would be staying away from all grains.
I suggest those two in particular because there are a ton of recipes to chose from that are incredibly tasty.
Good luck!

I also had normal thryoid in my labs, but when I had my Iodine checked it was in the toilet. I agree with JaneS and would also add possible adrenal issues.

The adrenals/thyroid/ and hormones all affect each other, so likely there is a problem in there somewhere with all of them, though system can have more pronounced effects depending on the person.

I get burning abdomenal pain from bacterial overgrowth. Probiotics are really important, as is diet. I like the GAPS diet.

I had heart palps and shortness of breath from B12 deficiency. Do you ever get numbness tingling in extremities as well?

You likely have a gut flora imbalance which causes nutrient malabsorption. B vitamins, minerals, and fat soluable vitamins tend to be the most affected. Vitamin/mineral deficiencies can cause lots of weird symptoms. B vitamins are involved in so many body functions, including digestion and immune system. Also magnesium is really important. For me magnesium really helps with anxiety/mood.

I just came across your post and it reminded me so much of my journey.  I have been suffering with problems since I was 19 and over the years things just seemed to go from bad to worse.  I am now 46 years old and have had many Dr's tell me my symptoms were basically in my head, they would say I am apparently healthy because the "proof was in the pudding" meaning because I carry a few extra pounds and look healthy that there couldn't be a serious problem other than loose weight.  This past summer after I had surgery for some female issues I found myself with neurological problems on top of my life long stomach issues, heavy periods, legs swelling, inability to loose weight, joint pain that traveled, headaches, eye dropping, skin rashes, dry mouth, cold sensitivity and an overall feeling that food was poison to me.  After my mainstream medical Dr. ran a MRI to see if my new symptoms may be MS which were ruled out he said to see a back Dr.  I new my symptoms were all linked together and progressively getting worse as I got older.  I went to a chiropractor who is a diploma neurologist and partner with a certified nutritionist, she sat with me for an hour listening to my life long issues, I felt like that crazy person when I finished talking, how could a person have so many problems, BUT she never looked at me like I was crazy, she said I believe you are sick and I have a few ideas.  She ran a battery of blood work and found that I had multiple issues, first I have a list of intolerant foods and Gliadins being one of them which is in the gluten family.  Tapioca is a severe intolerance but on top of food intolerance's (tested negative for Celiac) my blood work showed that I have an autoimmune disorder called Hashimoto's Disease.  This is where your body makes antibodies that attack your thyroid hormones.  It's not uncommon for thyroid levels to look normal but it's been found that a person with Hashimoto's disorder should have TSH levels on the lower side.  Gluten plays a big part in this disease, apparently your body produces a chemical when processing gluten that closely resembles thyroid hormones so your body makes more and more antibodies.  These antibodies can also attach to your cerebellum which causes a lot of neurological problems.  Hence the reason I need to be gluten free.  It plays havoc with your intestinal track and everything so I would ask your Dr. to test you for antibodies.  He'll look at you like your crazy as my Dr. did, my chiropractor had me first go back to my regular Dr and ask him to run certain tests and he refused so she sent me for everything she thought necessary.  Don't let your Dr. make you think your crazy, push for what you want and if they aren't willing then find another.  Most people get diagnosed from a good Chiropractor who treats the whole body (not the run of the mill Chiropractor), main stream medicine treat the symptoms but forget to find the root of the problem and learn how to treat the problem.  I would venture to say you are depleted in nutrients, even though your eating your intestines are probably so inflamed that you aren't absorbing all your nutrients which causes a lot of issues as well.  Sorry for the long post, hope this may give you pause for thought.

I'd definitely keep a food journal and see if you notice anything else besides dairy as a culprit. But I'd get the thyroid checked again. I had hypothyroid and went on meds in October. Had surgery at the beginning of November and 2 weeks later, my thyroid flipped the other way and I was borderline hyperthyroid. Not sure if it was related to the surgery or not, but all your symptoms sound VERY familiar to me.

I was wondering why one of my old posts got bumped up.  This one is from June/July of 2010.  But still have the same symptoms going on.  Anxiety is defenitely way less severity now that I have my gallbladder out, but everything else is there.  Just finished another 7 days from hell (horrid period).

Looks like Hashimoto bumped it up, and I didn't pay attention to the date. My digestion got better after my gallbladder came out. But I'd still check the thyroid if you haven't already. All the numbers, not just TSH.
