Suggestions for "roadschooling" curriculum?

We have never homeschooled before, but in the advent of our big cross-country adventure coming up, we would prefer not to set a time limit on it, such as being back in time for school to start.

Does anyone have any suggestions for either online or easily portable (and affordable) curricula that would be good for short-term roadschooling? By short term, I'm talking about 4-8 weeks, but if we like it, we could end up going a lot longer.

We're Christians, but do not by any means need a Christian curriculum. One that was solid in the basics, while still allowing for creativity in art, languages, and music would be ideal. One that is heavy on the reading would be good, too.

I know, I know. We don't want much, do we?

Anyway, any suggestions would be welcome.

So you'd only homeschool 'til you got home, or are you planning to homeschool all year and then go back to public school?

We do k12 Virtual Academy - through our state's virtual school program. So technically she's a public school student, but that's because the program is FREE through our state, and about $5000 as a private program. If we felt we could afford to pay it, we'd probably switch.

We travel a lot, and this worked well for us. We'd work ahead in the coursework which was computer-heavy (science, history) and bring along coursework which was easy to do in the vehicle (math, reading, phonics, some portions of other lessons). Do art, etc. once we arrived at our destinations or else, work several weeks ahead in math etc. and then have an art/science/history-intensive couple weeks once we got home.

There are many curricula which would also work well for your situation without having to go through enrolling in a state virtual school .... I'm sure you'll get more suggestions. One thing we do is make a point to stop at as many museums and historical sites as we can -- we took one trip which followed the Lewis & Clark Trail through Western MT all the way to the coast which was fun.

We use Time4Learning. If you are only planning on homeschooling for a short time, it would work great. It is all online. If you are planning to continue homeschooling after you get home, it would still be great. We are beginning our fourth year with it. You pay by the month or you can get a reduction if you pay every three months or once a year. If you decide you don't want to do it any more you just cancel. No contracts or anything. I think it's a great program.
