question about sandpaper letter font/style

Thread Starter
I just ordered some capital letters from Adena Montessori. A lot of the letters seem a bit elongated/stretched out. The arms on the "E" look really long, the top of the "J" , etc . I'm thinking they are probably a bit off, but my husband is saying that maybe it is just the style of the Montessori stuff. If you have sandpaper letters, do they look a bit strange in this way?

Also, I want to add that about half of the stuff that I ordered was of pretty poor quality, I'm very disappointed with it! I'll be calling them in the morning to complain and ask about sending it back. HOpefully their customer service is decent.

Did you buy the italic capital letters?
I have never used capital sandpaper letters - by the time we finish with lowercase cursive sandpaper letters (most attractive between 3 and 4) then move through moveable alphabet exercises, the capital writing comes pretty naturally. Many times, we don't introduce capitals until the child is 6 + (maybe even in lower el)

My child's Montessori uses cursive lowercase sandpaper letters. His teacher has various reasons for starting with cursive but it does seem more intuitive -- easier to write cursive than block (natural motion of the hand), less confusion between letters (like b and d, which are opposites in print but totally different in cursive), better flow when stringing letter together, etc.

If you are going to send them back and re-order from elsewhere, I highly suggest lowercase cursive.
