My DH and I will be taking our 3 month old son on our first trip (airplane, followed by a couple hours in the car) and will be spending one night in a single hotel room. We co-sleep and at home, we put him to bed at around 6 or 6:30. We use room darkening shades and white noise and he sleeps pretty well until we come to bed around 9:30 or 10 when he usually wakes up to nurse. But I've tried reading in our bedroom with a candle or booklight, and he wakes right up, and if we whisper as we get into bed, he wakes up too. Any suggestions for how to handle the one-room hotel? We can't go to bed at 6:00 (as much as I'd like to, I have horrible insomnia, but that's for another thread!) and yet I'm worried he just won't sleep with us awake and any lights on. HELP!

Co-Sleeping in a Hotel Room?

Off the top of my head, can you darken the room, put him to bed, set up a monitor, and spend the evening with DH on the hotel balcony? Maybe order room service and just enjoy a few hours together outside if the weather's nice.
Or... can you put a pack'n'play in the bathroom, turn on the fan, set up a monitor, and then stay in the main room? Kinda brings up a pee problem, but maybe skip the beers for the evening...

When this happens to us, we splurge on a room with a living room area, a suite, or whatever the term is. Somewhere where there is a separate area so we can close the door.
Or else we're in the bathroom eating take-out, or on the floor near the air conditioner being veeeeeeeeeeeery quiet.
