Fever w/ no other symptoms

Hello there! My 9 mo old DS developed a fever tonight with no other symptoms other than being tired and wanting me to hold him. He was like this a couple days ago without the fever and I thought it was teething because he's drooling A LOT. His fever was 102.9 tonight, gave him tylenol and now he is sleeping. Any thoughts?

Probably a virus? According to our Ped., a virus will typically spike a fever, then other symptoms will occur after that (if they occur at all), with the fever gradually get lower each day. If the fever continues to get higher over a period of time, it could indicate a bacterial infection of some sort.

I know that my babes have sometimes run a fever w/no other symptoms. I usually take them in to see the doc to check for an ear infection when this happens. It's never been an ear infection, mind you, but I automatically think it *might* be when there is an unexplained fever.

I always like to call my pedi's office or the after hours nurses line, just for my own peace of mind. My pedi usually doesn't have us come in unless the fever is very high or it is not responding to medication.

fever for 3 days can be roseola--the rash comes after, just when you start to worry about what it could be

Huh! My baby had a low fever for a day or so, followed by a red rash that broke out on both of us at the same time. I probably had a fever earlier, and just was too busy on a hot day to think it was that. The rash I attributed to our new bed sheets, even though I washed them 6 times. I just looked it up, and our rashes looked just like the roseola rash. But I'm still not sure, since the rash is clearing up and I changed the sheets last night.

It was roseola! He's much better now. Thanks for the help everyone. :-)

looks like you've gotten your answer, but i was going to suggest Coxsackie's - esp the drooling part. their throats hurt too much to swallow.

glad to hear he's doing better.
