Best Bottles/Nipples for Breastfed Baby

Thread Starter
Hi,

I didn't use bottles at all with my youngest, and my eldest would only take preemie nipples when she had to have a bottle -- so I'm clueless about this.

My aunt wants to make my cousin a "diaper cake," and the tutorial she's using calls for baby bottles as the central support.

What are the best bottles for a breastfed baby - and nipples, too? Please tell me what you think and where you found them! I am unfamiliar with the glass vs. plastic bottle debate, too (I think one is supposed to be less good than the other, in terms of impacting the fat of the breastmilk - I know if plastic, a BPA free bottle (and nipple system) is what one would want ....? ).

Thanks in advance!! Since I'm the resident breastfeeding guru in my family, I'm supposed to know the answer to this question.

I've only used a bottle twice with DS because I burned my hand when he was 4 days old and couldn't hold him properly. We used the First Years "Breastflow"- they're supposed to be the best bottle for going from breast to bottle and back. Baby has to open wide to latch on it, and the sucking movements are just like when breastfeeding. DS has had no nipple confusion even after a bottle so early. I won't hesitate to use this bottle again if I have to.

The most important is a wide base, slow flow nipple. Bottles we've liked (and were recommended by our LC) are:

Avent
Born Free
Playtex drop in system

I'd get maybe a few different kinds since some babies like one better than another? We really like the Avent though and most ppl I know do as well. Also probably get 4oz and not the 8oz since most breastfed babies will never eat that much.

The Playtex drop ins are supposed to be good because the flow is so slow. Also you can pump directly into the inserts, freeze/refrigerate in them, then feed from them which is nice.
