When does the tiredness go away?

I've started a few threads on baby sleep (as DD, 9 1/2 months, usually only gives us 3-hour stretches), but I have a question about Mommy sleep this time.

In the last 2 or so months, I find myself--thankfully--getting a little more sleep. Sometimes it's 2 X 3-hour stretches, and once in a while it's a blessed 5-hour bliss. Last night I got 2 hours, then 4 hours, then another 2 in broken patches. That's at least 8 hours in a night! I know it's not the same as a solid 8 hours, but it's WAY better than before.

So... why am I still go freakin' tired? All the time? My eyes burn permanently, and I just feel zonked. I'd have expected to at least feel a little more energetic now and again, especially after nights where DD is down for the count for a big chunk.

(At least I don't have that walking-dream feeling anymore. I used to have to really concentrate to cross the street... yes, the light is green, no cars coming, light's still green...)

I just never feel rested.

What's up with that?

It's so slow for me too and I'm not even sleeping with my son anymore. I moved out of the family bed leaving husband and son together 3 - 4 months ago. I am STILL exhausted every morning. I am not able to nap well (leaves me sluggish all the rest of the day) but I know that helps others.

I am just trusting that the incremental improvement in my energy that I notice each month will really add up to something over time. 2+ years of rotten sleep - maybe it's like weight loss, or recovery from heartbreak, and takes twice as long to recoup your balance...

Can you DH let you sleep in a couple of mornings a week? This helps me out tremendously. I find that on the weeks I don't get that one day of extra sleep I am way more exhausted.

But as to when the tiredness goes away? I'd love to know too...
