Travelling and CDing

Thread Starter
we'll be doing our yearly European trip to visit the family in September and im wondering if we should buy a hybrid system and use disposable inserts or just stick to the whole CDing as we will have access to a washer (but no dryer) and we will have to bring detergent
dd will be 4-5 months old and is only breast fed.

with the hybrid i thought maybe of investing in some FLIP diapers and buying the dispoable inserts.

thoughts mamas??

i don't know how much help this will be, but when we traveled 2,000 miles away, we also had access to a washer/dryer and found it wasn't a problem at all - my son was also EBF at the time. however, the only time i realized i HAD to use disposables was inside the airplane. we use prefolds, so in the tiny restroom, i had NO room to wet the cloth wipes, change the prefold and do the snappi and put on the cover, etc etc. it was awful!

I think cloth is actually easier to travel with because if it's what you're used to, it's one less thing to have to adjust to. I changed a Snappied prefold in an airplane bathroom 2 months ago and lived to tell about it but it was not on my list of top one thousand favorite life experiences.

I haven't tried the Flip disposable inserts so I can't comment on those, although I do very much love the Flip stay-dry inserts.

Have you experienced disposable diaper poop blowouts? My DD was in sposies until 11 months and we had many blowouts. DS has been in cloth since he was born, and the only time we have used disposables during the day was on our plane trip to Halifax - I thought they would be lighter and easier for the trip. And he had a massive, disgusting up-the-back blowout that necessitated an entire outfit change which I had to do on the FLOOR of the bathroom of a "family restaurant". It was a terrible experience and we ditched the sposies for the flight back.

I tell you this to try to convince you to use cloth whenever you can, because your DD will be at a prime age for big poops! With both DD once in cloth, and with DS, we've packed a suitcase full of cloth and washed when with family. It works just fine - I bring a pail liner to store dirty diapers in and I find it's as practical as a diaper pail.

However, it is possible that the Flip disposable system would work well for plane rides, etc - it's quite possible that the covers are more effective than sposies.
