help with woven wrap

Thread Starter
i have a DD 3 months old and borrow a wrap from a dear friend to try it out before purchasing my own, it is a storchenweig woven wrap. we are going to europe soon and ill be able to get one a lot cheaper than buying it here in Ontario.
anyways, so i really like it, but it seems to loosen up when im wearing her, or cut into her thighs, etc. m just not sure if im tying it right or not, i looked at the sites about how to tie it properly. im wondering if i actually need a longer one. the hardest part i guess for me is when im starting the wrap, its just so long!
thanks mamas

I don't recommend a Storch as your first woven. They are awesome, sturdy wraps but kind of hard to break in. They are quite stiff when new and you want to start using it right away! Try one of these brands which you should also be able to get overseas and they are usually pretty soft even new. Neobulle, Girasol, Didymos.

They all have websites so you can go look at some of their patterns as well. As far as wrap size, that depends on what carries you want to do. I highly suggest checking out thebabywearer.com TONS of great info.

It sounds like the issue could be a few different things. First, it's very important to tighten the wrap piece by piece as you go, because if there is any slack hiding anywhere once you tie the knot your baby's weight will find that slack and pull it forward. Second is actually tying the knot. You want to tie a flat reef knot (also called a square knot), and tie it tight. If the knot isn't tight to begin with, again, once you start walking around it will stretch and "loosen" to tighten itself against your baby's weight.

Finally, about the wrap cutting into her thighs. Try to do two things- make sure the wrap reaches her "knee-pits" and that when she's sitting in the wrap she's in a good spread squat position. Her knees should be up around where her bellybutton is, her legs should be spread apart, and the fabric should go from knee-pit to knee pit. Having her sit in a supported spread squat should take the pressure off her thighs and distribute it more evenly all across her body.

I hope that helps... if you can tell us what types of carries you are doing with the wrap we can probably help you troubleshoot even more.
