I think I'm in love!

So, I have this problem with a nasty kitchen floor. It's hard to deal with, too, because it gets nasty THREE times a day. And the table, and the chairs. Sigh...toddlers. I wouldn't trade them, but...

Anyway, I bought a small vacuum cleaner today AND a swiffer wet jet. I am an all natural cleaning agent sort of person, but I've decided I don't care. And it was SO easy to clean up tonight. Yeah!

Dd has the job of cleaning off the table after we eat, and, as of tomorrow, she'll also be running the small sweeper. Then, I'll do dishes and do the swiffer. The kitchen will be clean! And stay that way. Hurray!

I'm also in love with the swiffer wet jet. I just love that I can mop and it not be a big deal. My husband even mopped once and commented on how easy it was.

Wanna know a secret though... I use old baby wash clothes (ok, I have bought a few new ones for this purpose because they just fit so perfectly and you can get like 12 for $3-4) on my regular swiffer with a squirt bottle full of homemade floor cleaner (toddlers LOVE to have the job of manning the squirt bottle, btw)... works just a good as the wet jet, IMO. Not to mention I know EXACTLY what's in the cleaner, and it's all good stuff! Oh yeah, and no throw away! It's great!

ohh, tell me about it! Our apartment has blond wood floors all the way through, and I was making myself crazy trying to keep them clean! I ended up buying a nifty little Korean vacuum...a canister vacuum designed for hard floors, and it ROCKS! I'm actually going to buy a transformer so I can take it home with me to the States, LOL. I never want to sweep again!

But we mop, with an oldfashioned string mop, a bucket, and orange pine sol, just about every day, because lemme tell you, those blond floors show EV.ERY.THING. Plus I hate black bottomed feet, lol.

There are ways to rig it so that you can use your own solution rather than the Swiffer solution. I don't have one but found the info for a friend before

Yay for a clean kitchen. That seems to set the ton for my whole day.

That's EXACTLY what I wanted to hear. How do you make the baby washclothes stick?

#1--you will be SO surprised at how much less you have to clean up once you get a dog! I rarely have to sweep under our diningroom table

#2--if you love the Wet Jet, you MUST try a Hoover Floormate. Like a carpet scrubber only for hard floors. Just add warm water and your detergent, plug it in, and it sprays then sucks it up!

As far as a dog. Actually, that's precisely my problem. We just moved to the country, and our indoor dog became an outdoor dog. I know what you mean about having no issues...but at least now I don't have dog hair. But, yeah...on particularly bad days, she's invited in after supper. It's just so much easier. We are adding a puppy in a few weeks, and I'm hoping he'll do even better than she does. She's old and fat and not quite so desperate for the stuff the kids drop.

Ooohh yeah, it would be a rude awakening to suddenly have no dog clean-up! Ours are labs--they'll eat anything, any time

We just bought a Shark steam cleaner. Just water, no detergent, and you can wash and re-use the pads. Love it! Now I don't know what to do with our swifter!

I bought this a few years ago (actually mine is a different color, but it's the same premise) and I LOVE it. I can use my own spray solution and the cloth is washable. My kitchen floor is DEFINITELY cleaner than it was before.

We had the Shark, but it seemed like a chore to pull it out, plug it in (don't forget that extension cord!), wait for it to get ready, and then the water bin runs out very quickly!! Plus, I think we paid $80 or so from Costco.

We recently switched to the Swiffer Wet Jet using the Shark cloth pads and I found this video on how to refill the Wet Jet. Just tried it and it worked out! I did a water/vinegar solution.

which is similar to the one New Mama posted, but smaller (I think) and cheaper. But first, I really need to get down on my hands and knees and scrub the floor clean. It's been so long, I'm not sure the spray mop will do much.

Or, I could tell myself I'm 9 months pregnant and just vacuum the kitchen floor, then use the spray mop daily for a few days and see if it gets up the yucky stuff down there. No (or at least minimal) bending required.

Yeah, I like that plan.

Yeah, I like that plan.

On the other hand, scrubbing floors on hands and knees is a great way to get baby locked and loaded for birth! I'll come scrub your floors (it's one of my nesting compulsions, anyway, and the house we're in this time has carpet everywhere ).

Oh my goodness! Thanks for posting! I was thinking about getting the shark because it seemed less wasteful than the wetjet. I want to thank you so much for posting this link though!!! I used a knife to cut a hole in the top of my swifter bottle and a rag to stuff in the hole but it still sloshed out! I was still dealing with that though because not only is the cost of the Wetjet refill out of this world but the stench is too!

I'm buying one last one to replace my cut apart one and then doing this!

I have a shark steam mop... I love it! I keep it out where it is easy reach and the cord is long enough that I can mop MOST of my little house without having to plug in somehere else. I haven't had an issue with the water running out too fast myself and it only takes like 30 seconds to a minute to say its ready... about the time to quickly do something else that needs to be done haha. I do have a newer model though and the platinum or premium or whatever it is.... it was the only steam mop the store had at the time bahaha

My midwife specifically told me NOT to scrub the floor on hands and knees once the baby was head down, because she had a mama who got crazy with the nesting and did just that and the baby went breech right before labor started. I think she was mostly joking, but that was the perfect excuse for me not to scrub the floors!

I have a mop that I really like that I bought after I got tired of the waste associated with the swiffer wet jet. It very much acts in the same way but no waste. It's the microfiber floor mop from Libman - http://www.libman.com/products.aspx#/Mopping/28m/1/. I have 3 pads for it and when one is dirty, just toss in with my other laundry. Carry a spray bottle of whatever you like (frequently ours is just a vinegar/water mix) and spray areas on the floor before mopping. Works just as well as the Swiffer.
