I have a monster headache... and feel feverish...
I know it's my body's response to the stress I had/have lately...
It sucks!
And DH doesn't take it too well... says it doesn't worth it (trying to help DD1) if it makes me sick.

Hello Ladies!!!! Oh have I missed all y'all while on vacation

I've quickly caught up on the rest of July and now August and wow we're on into the 2nd day of the month.

First and foremost - and to everyone along with a for all the icks, UTIs, CPS-drama, bad dreams, lost kitties (plz come back soon!!), broken cars/stranded family and general blah-blahs surrounding our circle these days.

Happy Lammas! We didn't have a formal celebration, but I did plan dinner to be enchiladas (corn, chicken, beef & spicy sauce) to try and encompass the day (fire, corn, harvest etc.)

Vacation was a blast as it was a complete "stay-cation" and I got to hang out with the kids, do some crafts like painting fairy houses for our backyard with glitter, drawing, going to the pool, errands, some yard work, decluttered a bunch and general fixes around the house too.

The garden is exploding with tomatoes, basil, parsley, and lemon balm. It has the look of a "jungle" and the mosquitoes to boot.

This week I'm going to focus on canning a bit - I got some peaches (3 1/2 lbs), cherries (2 1/2 lbs) and maybe try some of the pears from our tree in the back if they ripen ok. I also need to do some chicken stock, black beans, and spaghetti sauce to re-stock our pantry.

I miss the kiddos now being back at work, and I miss my afternoon naps too, but DH reminded me how sweet I have it for work, in terms of how much I actually have to do vs. goof-off time I have during the day for the kind of position I have. Already I'm trying to plot my next vacation, but first I have to put in for my nephew's baptism. I'm going to try and research blessings for kiddos and see if my sister will let me do one for him (in addition to the baptism).

Gifts - I love homemade stuff and this year I need to get cracking as I did a little homemade gift exchange and just figured out what I'm going to send out to people. As for the holidays - my family asks for lists and we have a pre-set budget which we save for during the year. If we can't give - we just say "hey its been a bad year, but here's a card with our love and wishes".

I can't believe its August already! Ok off to catch up on the camp threads & weight loss

No, you don't. In 2003 I was selling a house on the Outer Banks and it was under contract, and I'd removed the "wind and rain" insurance right before a hurricane was due to make a direct hit.
I was out here in the mountains at the time.
I had a constant vigil going, along with everybody I knew all over the world via the internet, and when it was all said and done, my friend who still lives there checked on my house for me. There were trees and signs and houses down all over the place-- but my house didn't even have a leaf in the driveway
Yes, magick works. Even from afar.

Are you still selling?

See? You can infuse magick into anything. And nobody's the wiser

We do lists, too. Good idea on the card, though.

I needed to hear this, and remember magick isn't big, fluffy, with a zillion candles ablaze.

You're welcome on the notice Would you light a candle for me, then, on that date? Pretty please? TIA
I will light a candle on the 9th. Any special time?? I could light one around the time you are.

Yay, I was worried, after I typed it, that it would come off snotty ~wipes brow~

It is. I like it warmed, over vanilla ice cream But it's good with yogurt, too. Vanilla, or plain with a tad of maple syrup.

Actually my Lunabar task bar says the New Moon is the 8th, at 6:30am (if I'm reading it correctly). I'll probably start around...oh...mid-morning? 10ish? Anytime during the day is good, I guess. Maybe I'll get on here in the morning and say when I'm starting?
Thanks, redveg!

Update: My mom and my brother will be taking greyhound across country. Car can't be fixed for a reasonable amount.
My mom now has no car and no furniture/housewares. She has basically lost everything except some clothes.

i have got to tell you this really weird converstaion i had with my MIL yesterday. i had to drop the two oldest off so i guess dh and his mom were talking about evolution due to some show they watched on some science channel. my MIL does not get how evolution works! no amount of explaining could make her understand! she does not get the idea of the lengths of time it takes. she said "who took care of the first human?" i said "well whatever gave birth to it, but honestly it was pretty close to what we are now." "so some monkey took care of it? or a bacteria?" "no it happens slowly and takes millions of years, with small changes happening. some work and continue, others don't work out so well and die off". "so who took care of the first human? if we came from hot spots in the ocean, how did a baby develop? who took care of it?" "it wasn't like that. it was something similar to what we are now. they would have raised it. it wouldn't have been too much different from what they were" "So like a chimp took care of it?" LOL it just went around and around like that for 20 minutes. dh said he told her dumbledor took care of it, because they had the same discussion for like 30 minutes and she couldn't get it. lol she is 81, it is just so weird to me that something my kids understand (even my 8 year old gets it) my 81 year old MIL can not grasp. lol

dok: so sorry about your mom. that is crazy. there is no way to have her stuff shipped to her? or like maybe renting a small u-haul and driving it?

maia: yes we are still trying to sell the house in maine. we have had people look thru it but no one wants it yet. i think i might do some sort of ritual on the new moon. some sort of letting go? or i don't know some sort of... something.lol

Catching up... August is hard core insane busy.

Happy holiday season all! May your fields ripen, your gardens bear fruit, and your harvest of joy be great!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Healthy vibes to those in need (dds, mamas, and all)
Good car thoughts! Ours is still in the shop so my car mojo may be a bit worn down though.
Gifts- we "donate in honor of Insert Name Here" and give a card along with a small "cute" gift. Soooo... a donation to Heifer International of a duck, along with a card and a rubber duckie. Or a donation to a group that works to preserve bee colonies along with a small jar of honey (we buy a large container of local honey and divide it into smaller glass jars). Or a donation to a reforestation program and maple sugar candy (the kind in the leaf shape). We like doing the donation thing because the money is getting used (not shoved in a closet so to speak) and because there is no "dollar amount". We can give a dollar, or ten dollars, or 50 dollars... whatever we can afford.
I do love getting handmade/homemade gifts, and I love making them too, but many of my relatives don't like them. So the donation is my compromise.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

been having a crazy day... dd2 has elimination problems (chronic constipation) and it had been three days since she last went. Much screaming, crying, unhappiness. And unfortunately today the Rx lax kicked in... so she eventually eliminated, then again, and again, and then again. She finally, after screaming for HOURS fell asleep and.... monster elimination. All over her, the couch, the floor. Literally 60 seconds after I nursed Tor to sleep. Had to put him down (of course he woke up, started screaming) and wake Ro to the poo-fest.

I am soooooo done. Thank the gods dh got home in the middle of this and was able to strip the couch while I bathed Ro, then help clean the floor while I kept both Ro and Tor away. Poor dd1!
post #50 of 684
Oh no! I'm so sorry DoK!

Is there any way to have some of the stuff shipped? Did the store person take everything? Maybe the car could be traded for storage space or something for a month or two? Argh! I'm so frustrated for you and your family. That's not right!
post #51 of 684
It would cost too much money for a regular uhaul.
The second hand store woman bought everything for only $125 (which is going towards the greyhound bus ticket.)
It would cost way too much to ship (it was stuff like her bed, computer desk, etc.)

The junkyard will take the car.

I feel so bad for her. She must feel like she's being punished for moving back to be close to her family. I put out a plea on facebook for donations.
She's starting from scratch. She's a senior citizen so doesn't have money to buy new stuff.
post #52 of 684
How awful dok! I hope some donations come through for her.

wombat-what a day/night for you all. Dd had the same issues and still has trouble with being comfortable about going.

momofthree-that's a fun cycling convo I bet!

Thanks for the well wishes all. I got my Rx today so here's to hoping right.

Ds went to his first psych eval and the woman didn't even look at him. She spoke only to me so didn't see him running back and forth until he tripped and fell. Then asked me if that was normal. I'm thinking I just TOLD you this!

She put down potential ADHD but said it will probably change from appointment to appointment. What's that mean? She mentioned a medication that has a monster on it for adhd and agression and said it has had great progress, but wanted to see him for awhile.

I'm a little concerned that she wants to see him alone. I mean he's 5. Shouldn't I be in the room with him? I voiced this but she said it was the way they did their services. What do you mamas think about that? And about the rest of the appointment?

(((to your mom)))

In the last New Moon article, it talked about big changes/loss in our lives at this time. That we were forced to let go of old things/relations...

Her situation definitely fit the bill and I hope her new life will be filled with joy and love now that she made this major decluttering.

This http://jeweldreamwitchesthegoddessun...use-Spell.html is the sketch I'm going by. I don't know what time, yet, though. It will be on the 8th.
Oh crud, wait-- just realized the 8th is a Sunday. DS will be home. I may wait till Monday morning the 9th. I can do that, right? If TM time has a 3-1/2 day window, surely every other New Moon does, too?

Oh. My. Gods. You poor mama. I am so sorry! Well...the upside is, she's empty now! I guess you have to find an upside, in all that, huh?

Ye Gods, she got ripped. Poor mama! My mom is a senior citizen, but she has plenty of money to start over. She'd just b*tch and moan about every penny
I hope your mom doesn't punish herself that way. I know it's no consolation, but M says you have to embrace having nothing, in order to appreciate anything. Which is why he's content to live in a 10x10 studio. I admire him, actually, for that. He has to be very discriminating with what to bring in and what to leave.

Still, I hope you and your mom will have a joyful reunion. Does she get along well with Roo? Does your brother? It'll be nice for you having family close. I wish I were closer to my mom. Well...sometimes

Oh I'm so sorry for your mom. That sounds so stressful. I hope she can breath deep and take it moment by moment as she rebuilds. Luckily she is on her way to be close to family and not the other way around. Hopefully freecycle will have some things she can use. I'm sorry your family's going through this.

Big hugs and lots of positive energy to all the upsets. Valerie, I'll have to go back and read that article. The last few weeks have been rough for me too. I hope your headache is long gone.

I had a nice Lammas. Decided to throw together a small gathering that was fun and relaxing. We had a nice fire and good conversation. Although, I did slighlty burn my honey sourdough bread. Whoops. Re: baking in August. The high temp this week's was 60. The oven was welcome during the 55 degree morning.

Maia-I'll light a candle on the new moon.

Roo broke a tooth. Not sure how, all he was doing was eating a cracker. The tooth was growing in very crooked and pushing against another tooth so maybe that weakened it.

It hurts him when he eats or drinks but he won't take pain med.
Will go to dentist tomorrow. I just hope that it's a baby tooth.
post #57 of 684
maia: that looks interesting. i read some place (while googling earlier) that st joseph is the saint of carpentry and real estate, and he is good to have come to a house selling. i guess you could even bury a statue of him at your house. i was thinking of putting a candle with a picture of him on my altar. i like the ritual thing on that link you sent. i will see what i can come up with. thanks

Sounds lovely I'm sure it will turn out to be 'nothing', especially considering her age, but it's definitely best to investigate the hell out of it to make sure! You've obviously done an awesome job teaching her to take care, and listen TO, her body .

OMG how terrible! She is getting ripped off by the consignment person I'm sure I hope she can get a helping hand when she gets there.

you TOTALLY want the pyridium... it's a bladder anesthetic so it numbs the bladder and takes away a LOT of the pain while you wait for the antibiotics to do their thing. It's a miracle drug if ever there was one!

it doesn't sound like she WANTS to get it either... is she... addled at all? Amusing that people actually thing a human baby just sprung into existence just like that, isn't it

I'm having a minor freak out... ok not so minor. We have MICE!!! I saw one last night race into the pantry (here's hoping the little bastard is starving... tupperware ftw) and I walked into my bedroom in BROAD DAYLIGHT.. and I saw one/him run out of the ensuite under a dresser. EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

Get the sense I'm freaked out???? I'm going to have to investigate getting a cat or SOMETHING, because this is simply not acceptable. My skin is crawling And I'm worried about our pet rats being exposed to something by this nasty, feral, disease carrying vermin.

Off to go outside & call the boys in the states... at least I know the mouse is in HERE and I'm out THERE. Any suggestions on non violent ways to get rid of him/them???

i just felt the baby kick. a real honest to goodness kick. makes me so happy!

as for the dream, the reason it freaks me out so much is that i have had only three miscarriage dreams (loads of other scary wacky dreams) and all were before each of my three miscarriages. but feeling the baby move, such a relief. i am trying to remind myself that all of my miscarriages have been before this stage (6,8 and 15 weeks) so i am feeling safer.

DoK: Your mom must be in store for an upgrade! Hopefully you all won't stress too much. I'm a firm believer in things happening for a good (great!) reason. She'll have more stuff than she knows what to do with in no time, I'm sure.

Breaking a tooth sounds painful! I also hope it was a baby one. I have friends who've had to have adult teeth bonded or replaced or whatever, though, and they still have beautiful smiles! Not cheap, so I hope it all turns out well for you all.

unschoolinmom, no, I wouldn't let my 5yo go to a psych appt. alone. I'd find another office to do business with if I were you. That's just me, tho! Good luck. I know how difficult it can be to get the needed help for your kid.
