Anyway, dCon can work great but... a snap trap is more humane and doesn't leave you with that special "hint of cadaverine" that is the primary note in "eau de old house".
This is true. However, the smell doesn't last that long. It's gross, but it does the trick, and it gets most all of them.
Snap-traps, yes, I agree, but yick. Emptying dead mice takes its toll after awhile.

I have taken a liking to those, too. I found a couple at the poor store for 99c each.

Dh only does the money thing with me. If I go shopping (he knows it's usually for house and kids and pets stuff) he'll ask me how much I spent. But used to tell me never to ask how much he spent when he bought his $400 worth of comic books. I finally threatened to use said comic books as toilet paper if he kept ticking me off. He's good now.

Maia-I'll ask her at the next visit. She wants to meet dd, because of her thing as children such as dd are interesting? I do like her response to the homeschooling, even when I told her we mostly unschool, and all my other "hippy" things I do.

I'm going to start holiday shopping because I want fall and winter to get here. Fall because...I like colorful leaves and winter because the little one comes!

aweynsayl: are you in Arizona?

as for the mice: eeek! lol there are those humane traps, but then you have to let the mice go some place and they could just move back in. hey, you could get a snake or two. lol

Mornin', all! (Well...it's morning here in CA.)

I'm having a great start to a great day. It's supposed to get up to 69 degrees today, so that's nice. It's been a pretty cold summer. Maybe I feel fall-ish, already, but that is probably due to the fact that summer seems to have passed us by.

My lips are peeling today. Just thought y'all needed to know that.

I use the local food pantry so I know what they have. Canned goods are extremely high in sodium. And she can't eat pasta very often because the carbs turn into sugar and her numbers spike. (yeah, our local pantry is pretty pathetic. They don't have much.)

An interesting look at the week/month... goes well with Tracy's thoughts and, well, it's shorter!

mice- oh yeah...snapped mice can be ugh. One last factoid though courtesy of the vet school. The "have a heart" style catch/release traps? It's true. If you take them far enough away to prevent them returning, they're too far away to live long... unless you drop them next to a dumpster or something. And in some regions the catch/release traps are illegal anyway! You can make a trap though with a coffee can... a little peanut butter in the bottom and a slit in the plastic lid. Make sure it's just a slit though and that the lid is on tight!

Garb- I am still sewing like crazy as I can. The kids are basically done! They just need cloaks and embroidery on their garb. Now I need 5 tunics for DH, 5 undergowns for me, and 5 "apron dresses" for me. The food is on the way from amazon, the kitchen box and the tent stuff box packed. So just the final clothing, the toothbrushes/paste, the bedding, air mattresses, tent, pack/play. Oh, and shovel, camp stove, tarps, sheet wall, and....

Sigh.

Ok, not as ready as I could be. But getting there! I'm so stoked!

I bet you will get some visitors from the church soon Yes on the Fall moments. I feel myself getting that cozy/want to cook all my comfort foods type of mood. Fall is my favorite.

I always have plenty of candles around, but these Saint Candles are my favorite, not just for magickThey are great when the power goes out, I used them all the time when I lived in Florida.

Well, she was indeed amazing. She passed away yesterday T'will take a long time to process this but overwhelmingly I just feel so grateful that I had her in my life. I could (and probably will) write a history of our relationship just through a list of all the books and poetry we have shared with each other over the years. A lot of those works were of a spiritual nature....I wish I just had some time to myself right now so I could snug up and reread (including Mists of Avalon!) and think of her. I know her spirit will always be with me. She was truly magic.

(Clay, I don't think I offered my condolences on the family friend who passed away recently. She sounded like a really cool lady and she obviously thought a lot of you and your family.)

My mom isn't doing well -- she is convinced, I think mostly thanks to a `helpful' family member , that she isn't allowed to seek support or tell anyone that her mom has passed. She just generally seems very confused on the phone. There were some big red flags for me in our conversation a couple hours back. I can't be there right now for $$ reasons, we can't bring her up to visit because she's just out of hospital and still under medical care, and I feel kinda helpless. Got someone from the social work office to check on her at her home, will call her again tonight. The staff there and her doctors think the world of my mom and I feel so lucky to have their support. Still feels like it would be so much better/easier for her if I could be there, though.

I don't think I am going to get any acorns this year. Too wet and a little too cool - this tree is meant to be growing in a warmer zone.

DoK, I am so sorry for what your mom is going through. Hope it will be better for you all when she is close by, even with the rough patch getting her re-established.

My dh does that, too. He has the kids, who cannot do anything to help, worried about how broke we are, and he downloaded some of that on me, too, last night before bed -- between that and my family stuff, I didn't get much sleep. I am applying for a bunch of subsidies this week and canceling some expenses. Hope that helps his mood.

I have been feeling like I need to bust out of some very stressful patterns. Year after year, every June I am so overscheduled and stressed, every summer it seems dh gets sick (not yet, so far this year), every summer money worries overwhelm (hey - probably related to dh getting sick, I think), and every December I am again overscheduled and stressed with holiday obligations.

No more of this nonsense! I am going to make some changes and FIX all this

Ouch! got a good ointment for that - maybe a little coconut oil? Drinking lots of water?

Eeek, Cari!!! I once moved out of a rental because I couldn't handle the mice. I say, hit the problem with everything you can throw at it.

Love to all, got a wakeful babe to cuddle!

We always have mice in the fall (rural area, it gets cold, they come inside).

Kitty takes care of the problem quite effectively

Mom called -- the social worker and her doctor both talked to her about how normal grieving is, that she should seek support when she needs it, about diet and taking care of herself, and I think they've convinced her that some of the stuff she was worried about was not real. Reality check apparently has been accomplished ETA - to be clear, for anyone who doesn't know, my mom has a lifelong mental illness and is on disability for it.

Aubergine, thanks, and big huge hugs to you too. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Popping in. Planning to do a warding spell tomorrow and cleanse the house. Then I will pick some fresh herbs for dinner.

Miss my ladies but need to focus inward for a bit.

I'm so sorry for your loss of what sounds like a truly special woman.

Hope you don't mind a few additions by my kiddos:

I'm happy the SW and DR helped. Grieving is def. normal! And, sometimes it lasts years. *sigh*

Sorry for your loss. I'm glad you seem to have so many positive memories and stories, tho! My nana passed in '89 and I still smile when I think of certain things about her. Of course, it probably helps that she visits regularly. I made a necklace that reminds me of her. I feel her energy on it. I wear it daily. Well, today the baby broke it, but I'll remake it soon.

I'm not drinking as much water as I usually do, but I've been putting lip balm on all day. Nice and smooth lips now! Didn't think about coconut oil. I'd probably lick it all off anyway.

Thinking about you

Morning mamas Well, today I will have a house full of teen girls, my poor DS. The day is starting off quiet but will end with screaming, laughing and a kitchen that needs cleaning. The girls love to bake when they get together. I don't know about anyone else, but lately I have been so tired. Even after a good nights sleep I still feel like I need more. My dream vacation is me getting a weeks worth of sleep

I hope everyone has a great day.

Thinking of everyone today.

Will be doing some massive cleaning/declutter/organization today and tomorrow. Going to try to limit my time on discussion boards til I'm done.

Not a bad idea, and also to get it out of the way so as to enjoy the holidays! I don't know what to do, actually, since I hope to be moved and I don't want to carry anything extra.
Maybe I'll do the Heifer thing this year, for everybody. I lurve them anyway

Nice...it's been way, WAY unseasonably hot here this year. You can have it! Where are you? I'm in WNC and it's been over 90* since May. Last week it actually stayed slightly under 90* for a couple of days, even getting as low as 83* one day (felt downright chilly by comparison). Back up above 90* this week, though, with no foreseeable end in sight

Gawd, I hate summer. Even more so, this year.

YIKES, that is a lot of sewing. Don't you have any left over from previous years for you and DH?
Why do you buy food from Amazon? What kind of food?
I have a friend from back in the day that's been to Pennsic. He's posted about it on FB, but he's not going this year. He says "Have fun!"

Aubergine-- sounds like you need, instead of fixing "all this", to fix your attitude As in, practice acceptance, find priorities, let some stuff go, and try to relax. The scheduling can pare down (and if it can't, find a way to remember to breathe), if DH gets sick then be prepared for it, give up the money problems to Goddess/God and prioritize (make sure everybody gets a share, even if it's small-- keeps them off your back), and maybe try to get some holiday stuff out of the way now (as in shopping/making things) so as to not be bogged down during the season.
Hugs, mama

Aren't they triplets? The same age? And teens? You'd think he'd be in his element

Now that would be a plan Maybe I should implement it, too.

DS has a friend coming over today, after lunch, and will be staying overnight. Tomorrow morning the kid's mama is coming to get both of them, and ds will be out of the house for half the day tomorrow
He just figured out last night that he can ride his bike on the land, over bumps, grass, and all so he's out there doing that right now. Yay for anti-boredom strategy, and new abilities!
He has to unload the dishwasher, and I have to do the Shred and get a shower, before his friend gets here. It's 10:20 now. I want all this done by noon. I'm such a slacker today, though

I see decluttering in my afternoon, though <insert crystal ball smiley here>

Tried Cari's eggy pie recipe this morning
