This is a "Non Due Date Club" for all the Mamas waiting to adopt kiddos, whether newborn or older. We can share our stories, encourage each other while we wait and be patient (or not) for our little ones to arrive.

Feel free to join in if you are waiting for a foster kiddo, a relative or an adoption in any stage. We're not trying to be exclusive at all. Mamas who don't have any kids yet but who are waiting to adopt or foster a kiddo are also welcome. Also feel free to chime in if you have previously adopted and have stories or advice to share.

Please keep this thread supportive and gentle. We all have different journeys and different ways of "getting there".

I am still here, and still waiting. I am not very hopeful and still feel pretty negatively about things at this point, but here I am none the less.

I have stopped thinking about our lives in terms of 'when the new baby comes' and now think in terms of *if*. I have stopped planning for this child, stopped purchasing baby related itmes, stopped talking about our adoption. It is a pretty sad place to be, but we have been waiting 10 months now with no interest. We were told it would be at least another 10 months but most likely longer; they just couldn't say how much longer. So I am trying to move on with my life as though we will always be a family of 4 because the longer we wait, the more realistic of a possibility that becomes.

I guess it might be time for an update!

My husband traveled to Ethiopia and brought our new son home on July 17th! He's been home now for just over 2 weeks, and we are all adjusting to life as a family of 4. My biological 2.5 year old is dealing with lots of sharing issues (parents, toys, time, etc), and we are trying to teach our Ethiopian 4.5 year old that he doesn't need to bend over backward for our attention and affection. Hard work, but it'll be TOTALLY worth it! I can't believe he's already home. It feels very surreal.

Looking forward to seeing everyone else's good news very soon!

We just got approved as foster parents!

crpsmnwife, is that right that you're expecting another little this month? I'm due in October (although I really doubt we'll have a placement anytime near then), and hope to hear more on how you and your family adjust!

I am one of three families selected as "finalists" for a little boy from my state's foster care system. They will be selecting "the" family by mid-week next week. This is just nerve wracking! I really don't know the best way to deal with this. If I am selected, things will happen very quickly. If not, well....then not.

Wow, exciting news all around! Homecoming! Foster approval! A possible pre-adoptive placement!

Armom: I'm sure there are merits to every method, but my state selects a "first-choice" family and THEN makes contact with the good news and does a presentation to that family only. If that family declines the placement based on info given in the presentation (which I don't think is a rare occurrence, the presentations are apparently brutally honest), THEN they call in the next-choice family and do it all over again. I am really glad that they do it this way - it eliminates the competition factor. Best of luck to you!!!

Polliwog file should go to the adoption committee either next week or the one after and her adoption "should" finalize in September. Or October, who knows at this point. She's not going anywhere so it will happen when it does. I do want to send pictures to her birth father and schedule a park visit but I think I'll wait until after finalization.

My license expires in a week so I have to scramble to get everything done at the last minute. Eeek.

I would definitely prefer the way your state does it, Smithie. Here all 3 families get all the info there is on the child, and the assumption is that once you go to committee you would accept the placement if choosen (although, of course, I dont think its unheard of that something unpredicted happens). I know it is not supposed to be about the pre-adoptive parents, but about the child, but I really think they could make it less hard on us pre-adoptive parents and still find the "best" home for the child...you state's system sounds more in that category to me.

I will have my first visit with him in his foster home this coming Wed. My understanding (have been playing phone tag with his worker, so the communication has been through voice mail) is that there will be some seeing how it goes, but he should be moved in a week from Wed.

DD's adoption has been finalized!!!!!

She was placed with us January 2010 and Finalization was August 2010, she just turned one late July. Very exciting times for us.
