Anyone else working out today? Dd had a class this morning at the YMCA, so I did 25 minutes on the elliptical and 15 minutes on the bike.

I hiked. 50 minutes up the side of mountain, 35 back down.

Yeah!

That definitely happens. I think it's happened a few too many times to me and I feel invulnerable to weight gain. Sadly, not the case. I think I need to be careful over the next few weeks. Hope I'm back in your camp soon!

Yeah, I'm trying to be grateful and look at it as I got a one shot deal at getting my weight off easily. In the future I hope to remember that I CAN put on 5 pounds in a week and hopefully avoid the binge.

For most of my nursing career I would get migraines 36 hours after I ate chocolate. My second child is taking in less milk than I've made in years. I seem to be okay eating chocolate now. I'm actually a little concerned about that because, usually though not always, the risk of a migraine was enough to keep me away from the chocolate. I no longer have a weapon against the evil chocolate (and the fear of weight gain is nothing like the fear of migraine.(

I'm sure that's true for a few people-- esp for older people or people on meds.

However, I've been around WW for a few years now, and I doubt that there are very many people who truly never use their weekly points. Everyone I know who says they don't use them *routinely eats food they do not track.*

I didn't use them because I wanted faster weight loss. I think I usually used them up with all the bites of my kids' food.
You assumed that the food that you didn't track was equal or less than 35 points. That's not the same as not using your WPs!

It took me two years to get off my weight so I had lots of time to experiment. I am most successful when I track as carefully as possible and use my WP and AP as needed.

Not using those points not only made the program harder to stick with but did not cause faster weight lose *for me.*

no food is evil and there are little ways to include chocolate for a point or two. For a while, I would keep a very high quality dark chocolate bar on hand and eat 1 pts. worth every night. Right now, I'm into double churned frozen yogurt, and measure out 2 pts. worth when I need a fix of fudge ice cream.

It's possible to lose weight and include chocolate nearly every day.

Oh chocolate is evil. There is no such thing as one or two points at a time. lol
post #48 of 135
There is if you eat a Vitamuffin Then it's one point.
WW has some one point bars that are chocolate if you need things to be pre-portioned. The 1 pt. frozen chocolate bars are HUGE and quite good.

(I'm up on a variety of ways to get in chocolate with very few points!)

Part of learning to make peace with food is enjoying a reasonable portion, knowing that you can have more later. The only reason to eat stupid amounts of food is if you aren't going to get more ever again.

For some people that's true. For others it's because it just tastes so darned good. It may work for you to eat it in small quantities, but I'd guess that for a lot of us it is easier to not ever eat it than wrestle with the demons that come out from just one taste. Please don't tell me I'm wrong because you are very lucky that you can get by with one or two points of chocolate without going over the waterfall of desire. I can think of nothing more luscious than swimming in a pool of chocolate ganache.

Yes, yes, yes! I can have a chocolate vitamuffin, and sometimes do but honestly they are kinda gross and do not feel like a treat. Now, an on-plan 1 1/2 of berries and 4 oz of red wine does feel luxurious. Everyone's got their tastes.

When I go over the "waterfall of desire" there's no way to stop it. At least I haven't managed yet. I'm clawing myself back OP now, but I will confess to eating the better part of a box of samoas Sunday night. Not because they were going out of style, but because they were there. So was I. Don't quite know what happened, but I do know I have to be really careful until I'm back to where I want to be.

Tomorrow for the first time I'm going to a meeting and asking not to WI. I think. Or maybe I'll just be hard, WI and get the bad news. We'll see.

For a lot of us it's either track or not. Either eat the chocolate or don't. I'd like to find a middle ground, but I'm not there yet. That's the thing. I've had success on WW, but it's made me a more extreme eater. Before WW I'd have a cookie or two and stop, knowing I could have another whenever I wanted. Now I know I'm going to eat carefully tomorrow, so there's a powerful drive to have more cookies today.

Hopefully maintaining long term will help me work that out.

This is why I just don't keep junk (or evil food, sometimes evilness is not junky) in the house. I cannot control myself. It's too much effort to try and eat smartly with these foods. If I want it, I have to go out and buy it special. And if I plan to buy only a reasonable amount that I can safely eat in one sitting, then I do it. But if I bring in a whole box of something, it's going to be gone in one day. Too much energy to try to not do that, so I don't even go there.

This is why I had so much trouble the week of two birthdays and traveling. The food was there. I was there. It was a mutual indulgent experience. Me and the food. And that was with me sending home most of the leftover birthday cake.

Today is my daughter's second birthday. We don't want her to have sweets yet so we are just making sundaes during our Spanish playgroup this morning. (This will count as her birthday party so our 4 year old doesn't feel like we cheated her. She's only two. What does she care if she has a kid party.) Ice cream for those who want and yogurt for her and anyone else topped with blueberries and strawberries. I'm afraid of the leftover ice cream so will take it to a friend's tonight.

The hubby is finally home and the company we had (they got here before he even got home) is gone so I am Soooooooooo readiy to get back on track. Today would have been my ww day but I didnt go bc we cannot afford any extra expenses right now. However I am going to go on Saturday because then I can leave kids at home with dad and finally start going to the meetings! Even though I didnt go weigh in today, I did make my own tracker and am going to follow the plan and track on my own. I figure my week will start over again on Saturday so I am subtracting 15 pts (5 for each day) from my extra weekly points for this "short week". I am also determined to work out 5-6 days a week! Today will be my first day back to the gym because yesterday I had a killer headache. We are going to Disneyland in November and I would like to be looking and feeling a lot better about myself by then. Ive set a goal to reach my goal weight by sept 18th. That mean I need to lose about 2lbs a week. If I stick to theplan and exercise, I know that will be easy for me to do. I think I can I think I can

It sounds like you don't have much to lose. 2 pounds a week is probably pretty unrealistic with this little to lose. Even if you set your goal to half a pound a week, you'd still reach goal by your Disney trip. I hate to see you get discouraged if you can't attain your current goal.

I agree. I know that *for me,* 2 pounds a week would be totally unrealistic. I lost 70 pounds and built some great habits, but my average weight lose worked out to be .5 pounds per week.

Putting dates in weight lose goals end up being a reason to quit for most people.

Just focus on being on the plan today. And then tomorrow focus on being on plan again. Repeat.

You will get to your goal and maintain it, and it honestly doesn't matter when that happens because NOTHING changes when you hit goal. Not one little thing. There's no rush. Maintenance is just like The Plan only less interesting because there are no mile stones.

Arg! I stopped at the drive-thru on the way home from seeing a postpartum client tonight and got a medium order of fries. When I got home and looked it up, I learned that a medium order of BK french fries has 11 points. That's half of my daily points.

On the up side, I did earn 5 activity points at the gym this morning. I did the elliptical for 20 minutes, the bike for 20 minutes and a 60 minute weight lifting class.

Today I had a very yummy and filling 3 point lunch that met a bunch of GHG.

1 cup of mixed greens
1 cup chopped other vegies (cucumber, celery, tomato etc)
1 small can chunk albacore tuna (2 pts)
1 teaspoon olive oil (1 pt)
juice from 1/2 of a lemon
fresh ground pepper

That counted as 3 vegies, 1 lean protein, and one healthy oil. It really stuck with me all afternoon, too! I wouldn't want it every day, but once it week it's very nice.

Two of the habits of successful members are controlling your environment and learning from past mistakes.

It sounds like you need better strategies for when you are working. Would bringing a snack to eat on the way home help? I find a Fiber One bar and an apple to be a pretty good snack that holds up well and can be eaten while driving.

Hi all!
been offline a few weeks, just wanted to say hi.

In a quick reply, if I EVER used my weeklies, I gained. I don't even use activity points unless I am maintaining.

peppermint patties are helpful for me- 3 points for 3 little ones I think.

What has really helped me get to my (now lower) weight has been consistency- just getting to the gym 5/7 days even if I do'nt kick ass each time. Honestly it's like my body has reset somehow- I don't seem to gain AS quickly as before though it does creep on after a tough weekend

I am going to look back at people's posts. Hope everyone is well. My number is fine by nutrition has not been good lately.

I actually had vegetarian sushi with me. I just wanted to have fries. I had thought I was doing good by getting a medium rather than the large. I had no idea it would be 11 points. Lesson learned. If I want fries, I need to budget it in.
