So I am pregnant with #3(unplanned). I had just started a trying to get my belly fat under control from my last pregnancy. I am 5' 7" and 130lbs, thin with a huge belly..I look 4/5 months pregnant. Now that I have found out I am pregnant I just wonder if I will be left with more belly fat or by regular exercise and healthy eating(we do the organic, whole grain, unrefined products things) I can still control it so after pregnancy I am not left looking 7 months pregnant.

Even before I was pregnant I would get ask if I was..I am still embarass as I am 2 months pregnant looking 5 months into it..

can I help my belly bounce back smaller after this pregnancy by just eatting right and excerise or am I going to stick with it or end up with a bigger one..

Eat right and exercise and hope. Oh and look into belly binding postpartum, some of that flab is simply from no longer having as tight of a midsection as before.

I was also going to suggest belly binding. I am going to try it myself after this birth...I have a friend who swears by it.

I grew more and more of a tummy with each of my first 3 kids. Then, after #4, I managed to get the flattest stomach I had ever had since I was maybe 14 years old (which was certainly no 6-pack, but still a big personal improvement!).

It had nothing to do with the additional babies (other than the obvious effects *during* pregnancy!) and everything to do with diet and exercise!

I'm going to try belly binding, too.

OP, have you checked to see that you're not suffering from diastasis erecti (separation of abdominal muscles)? I was just wondering since I know some otherwise thin women still have larger bellies from those muscles separating during pregnancy.

I don't have the diastasis erecti, I checked, my dh checked and my dr. check. Sometimes I do wonder if we all got it wrong because my stomach is so big for my size. I guess the only thing to do is to exercise and eat properly for this pregnancy. For my 1st pregnancy I basically went right back down to size(and did I exercise for that one) but my 2nd pregnancy I didn't do anything near what I did for the 1st and it sure showed, I gained more, my belly was bigger with a few stretch marks but the baby was smaller than the first...

I am starting to feel better since my 1st trimister is almost up, so I will start doing some exercise soon.

I will also look into belly binding, it always seemed stranged to me, I keep thinking I might be squeezing my organs.

Thanks

Is it possible that you're chronically bloated? Have you been checked for out of balance gut bacteria or parasites or anything like that?

I was wondering if I could be just bloated. I had an adominal and gallstone ultrasound, i believe it was to rule out digestion issues, can't remember exactly what it ruled out but I had it done because of my belly, but everything was fine, except it said a had a very small hernia by the retum but nothing to be concern about.

The dr. told me to try stay away from dairy for a while to see if it may be bloating. I know certain dairy foods does give me gas, I already don't drink milk as it never taste good to me and it hurts my stomach, rarely ice cream, just do products with it in and cheese but I don't believe that will be the only cause, maybe I am just one of those people that put weight on in the middle area. Every where of me slimmed down except my stomach, It was starting to go down when I started my own exercing program but then I found out I was pregnant and started feeling ill afterwards so I never got to see if it was just a needing to tone and exercise verses something more was going on(the few trips I took to the dr. they didn't find anything).

I guess the question I have is do you know if the size comes from below or onto of your facia? If it is above then finding the right ecersize in the end should win, if it is structural then addressing it is going to be a bigger deal.

If you haven't already I would go to a doctor that you trust their judgment and ask if they can tell of it is subcutaneous fat or if it is loose underlieing structure. Both can be worked on, but they are addressed very differently. If it just top layer fluff and it one around the middle section it may be smart to take a look after the birth at your hormone balance, gaining weight in a male pattern " apple" shape can be the signs of thugs that you would be better knowing and addressing as they can also cause underlieing health tendencies that you don't want going unchecked.

For now if I were you I would focus on and enjoy the pregnancy, i doubt there is much it is going to do either way to changes things that much. I too plan on belly binding, with q goos full medical gar met right away, I'm going to have twin tummy to combat!

I am not sure what is a facia but I will look it up. Also I don't seem to gain as an apple shape, I don't look like I have a spare tire. I just look like a thin girl that is pregnant. Those girls that look like all they gain is belly, that is how it is, round and pregnant looking, no spare tire. When I do gain weight for pregnancy at least it distributes all over but mostly in the face, hips and butt.

I could never keep weight on, this is the first time I have kept sometype of weight on(I like the weight I have know, I use to be underweight, same height but 110-114lbs).

I will look into the facia thing..

The facia is basically a sheet of stuff, similar to ligaments that helps form the shape of your body, it covers most muscles and there is sheets of it that crisscross your abdomen. If you eat meat it is the very tough translucent white sheet near the edge of some steaks that can not be chewed or cut very easy. When muscles stay short or long for too long the facia can reshape to that new size and then it's hard to get it back to what you want.

Hmmm I am going to step out on a limb here and ask a question that hopefully will come across the way I want it to... always a risky venture when one can not see your facial expressions or hear your tone.

How big are we actually talking about? Would you mind sharing a measurement or a pants size or something? The reason I ask is that I am 5'6" and after my first child was born I weighed 115 pounds. I remember at the time thinking I looked HUGE because I was not use to ANY extra padding on my tummy. I am WAY bigger than that now and now see what others saw when I look at pictures of myself from back then. I was far too skinny and my giant tummy that I thought everyone must see from a mile away was not even remotely noticeable.
130 pounds at 5'7" is very very slender. I am just asking because sometimes we dont realize how unnoticeable body changes are to others that we consider giant obvious changes. I just worry that you may be beating yourself up for nothing.

Yes I do think I am still skinny even though I have an extra 20lbs on. Trust me, I like the weight, I tried gaining weight all my life as I was always the skinnest among most people. I was actually 140lbs when DD was 3 months and I loved it then, my tummy also 'matched' my size, it wasn't flat but it was just a little bump, since the 10lbs just vanished that is when I had this belly. I do get ask if I am pregnant so it is noticable to people, I guess because they don't expect such a then person to have a belly like that.

I have attached 2 pics one with me from the front, you can't notice much at all and then the 2nd is from the side, believe it or not sometimes it is a little bigger but that has to do more with bloating and gas at the end of the day.

TMI territory here, but...

Are you normally a gassy person? Do you have regularly, fully formed BMs without any undigested food in them?

You might try going off dairy entirely for a few weeks and see if that helps.

FWIW, I am dairy & gluten intolerant and this is what I looked like for years until I went off those foods. Then I suddenly dropped 30lbs and had a totally flat stomach (well except for the loose skin caused by copious stretch marks).

It's worth an investigation and won't hurt if it doesn't pan out...

I can try the dairy thing but this belly thing is new to me it only happened after my 2nd pregnancy and after I lost the final 10lbs(well it just came off I wouldn't had mind keeping on the extra weight). I am also very regular (1 to 2 times a day) and I don't see undigested food.

Certain diary foods do get me gassy but that isn't anything new and that was before I had this belly also. But who knows maybe the dairy thing got worst after my 2nd birth.

I hope this is not inappropriate,
your tummy does stick out a little, but you are so very pretty. Just wanted to say so

Thanks Not inappropriate for me. I have just gotten self-concious after my belly, especially now that I get stared at because people taught I was pregnant(before I actually was).

I will definetly try the things that was suggested on this thread. I guess I will practice most now and after the baby try the belly band thing once I read up more about it.

Have you ever seen a chiropractor? I've noticed the chiropractor helps move things back where they should be and I actually feel taller!

For the record I think you look beautiful.

I see what you are talking about and I am sorry that I asked to be sure. I just know so many moms, myself included at one point, that were super small still but felt bigger because they just were not use to the subtle changes of motherhood on their bodies. I was genuinely worried that might have been the case with you.

You have gotten some great advice on different things to check into and different fitness options to look into. I have to agree with some of the others that have suggested you check in with someone that will look into your digestion and intestinal health. I hope you find some comfort and help because I can see through your post that this has really been hard on you emotionally. Please post if you find out what is the underlying cause, I am willing to bet that this is something many mom's have struggled with but just have not been as brave as you about discussing it. I look forward to seeing the solutions you find.

Is it possible you've developed diastasis recti? It is where the stomach muscles do not go back together after a pregnancy so there is a separation that allows that internal organs and whatnot to protrude. I have it and unfortunately the only cure is surgery but it is not covered where I live because it's considered cosmetic. I look 5-6 months pregnant all the time (and I am not pregnant, just saw this post).
