basic furniture

I saw (long ago) a show filmed in Japan, and if I remember correctly, the people who were being filmed had special mats they slept on, not the big beds that most Americans use. I would LOVE to find a mat specifically made for sleeping... anyone know what Im talking about?

Something easily moved.

This might not be exactly what you're looking for, but I used to have a futon from northernnaturals.com. I loved it and loved sleeping down on the floor like that, but when my SO moved back in (we were separated for a while), we went back to the regular bed because the futon was only a full. Then I let my sister and her son use it when they moved in, but apparently she didn't like it because she got a regular bed. So my poor futon got stuck in a closet and then got chewed by a mouse so it had to be thrown out.

When we move though (and hopefully have a bit more space in our bedroom), we are going to get another futon from this company, only a King size.

ETA: Okay, I take that back, they don't have King size! LOL You could always push 2 of them together too though.

I saw that movie film too. They are sleeping on special mats. They are not introduce to the beds until the Americans did.

They sleep on futons, on a tatami floor. Although they are starting to use western stlye beds more. Japanese houses are very different from american ones, they usually have a couple of tatami rooms, one that is a "bedroom" but they take up thier beds every day and air them out and then store them in large cabnets, that way the room is clear for other uses during the day. If my guess/undrstanding is right the tatami mat acts some what like a boxspring (there is some give to them, it is alot more comfortable to sit on for a long period than a wood floor). Also theirs are different than what I've seen in the states, they fold, and appear to be latex maybe? They absolutely were not what I was expecting I can tell you that. But I'm pretty sure that a futon is what you are looking for. If you go up to the tribes section here, I'm guessing you could find someone in Japan that could help you find what you are looking for.
