I've been checking the local kids' resale shop for rainboots for ds1 (5.5 yo). They never had his size. Then this week, we went in and he found a pair there - red & black ladybug boots. Cute, but - pretty sure those are intended for girls? He's starting K this fall and that's where he'd wear the boots a lot. He picked them because A) they were the only ones in his size, and B) red and black are among his current favorite colors. I mentioned, with delicacy and hesitation, that hm, they're cute but I think those might be more of a girl-type style? He said, no, they're nice, they're red and black, his favorite colors. So, I bought them for him.
The question is, will kids look at the boots and find them odd in Kindergarten at all?? Or maybe lots of boys have that style? I can't even believe I'm asking this, it's not a huge deal. If he loves something I let him wear it, though he's very easy going and opinion-free about clothes generally. But I'm sure when dh sees them, he'll raise an eyebrow too....
Edited to add: His two rain jackets are blue, in case that matters.

Now my 5 yr old neice, she is very much about boy stuff/girl stuff and probably would have said something-maybe not too much, maybe along the lines of "those are for girls" but I think it would end there.
I know this probably doesnt help but I say good for you for letting him choose his own style. Good job momma
