So i am due with our 4th baby at the begining of septemeber and at this point i feel like i'm done.. DH doesnt want to completely close the door on another baby at some point down the road.. but for now i know *I* at least want 5+ years with no more babies! We have never really used birth control.. i was on BCP's when we first got married but they made me act like a crazy person so i stopped taking them... then after ds1 was born we used condoms for like 2 months or something.. but other than that... no birth control what so ever... so now i dont know what to do?! i will be breastfeeding this baby.. and i'd really like to avoid taking the BCP because i dont likethe way i feel on them and i know i wont be good about taking them.. i have thought about nuva ring or mirena.. but we dont have any insurance at the moment so i dont know how expensive those are.... any onehave any ideas/advice?

aI have the mirena iud- the hormone based one and if i was to pay for it out of pocket( 3 years ago in MN) the approx cost was $750. to me that is very cost effective for 5 years of BC. there is also a non hormone based copper iud available.

you should check with your local health department. i just signed up with their family planning program, and will get check-up/paps and birth control for free. they have to send in a special approval to the state for an IUD but said it was just a formality, so hopefully in a few weeks here i'll be getting a mirena and it will be *free* through that program. all they wanted me to show was that i didn't have health insurance that would cover the mirena - i do have health insurance but they won't pay for an IUD so i still qualify for this program. my state is pretty poor so i can only assume that most states have similar programs in place. another option might be to check out the local Planned Parenthood. they do things on a sliding scale.
