Dingos racing toward fall! ~ August Running Thread ~ - Page 30

one more thought on nightlights: when Erin was EK's age we used to leave the hall light on and would ask her if she wanted the door closed or open just a crack. I got over my fear of fire (I had a fireman come in in 2nd grade and scare me into sleeping with a door closed - keeps smoke out) and her door is open just a crack and we have replaced the hall light bulb with a 30 watt one (ok the equivalent in the new bulbs, but it is much dimmer than your average hall lightbulb).

I just got a core workout in and boy, that was tough!

I also downloaded the new Runner's World Smart Coach app for my iPod touch. Hint: The free app is the same as the paid one.

I am feeling really encouraged about getting back on the fitness wagon. I am so, so thankful for this cool weather! I am finally running and lifting weights again, and I very much need to be doing both of those.

on the kids up in the night. I've got a 5 y/o that has slept through the night 99% of the time since she was 1, and an 8 y/o that still doesn't regularly sleep through the night. Kids. Pfft.

So maybe if Val is a crappy sleeper now, she'll be a better sleeper later?

We were up the other night from 1:30-4:30 hanging out... so I started chores. Some nights she sleeps all night. Sometimes she nurses once. It's a guessing game around here.

and for all that need it

Cool front is blowing in so it's rainy and gloomy here, but it was needed. Still in my lounge clothes, cleaning, catching up on laundry, and listening to the Survival Podcast.

Planning some interval running for Saturday.

I was thinking about doing that. Plus wearing my bike shoes. They are flexible enough, that if they don't have clip pedals on the model, I can still wear them. I'm going to go out this weekend, I hope!

I certainly ascribe certain stereotypes to the term fashion. I am generally aware of that, but I've been caught by surprise here, unawares of my own limited view. I would have likely interpreted it very differently had I seen "fashion design." Like I said, I come from a very narrow academic background, which means that I have no clue what's out there, or what those fields entail. I saw something on the resume that made me think of "Legally Blonde." Certainly paired with the bubbliness of the person (*very* different than my family), I really wasn't sure what to make of it all. The personality contrast was enough that it initiated significant discussion between DH and myself as to whether or not this is a concern.

Again, sorry if I caused any offense through my own ignorance.

Mine were all crappy sleepers as babies, and now, as older kids are actually pretty good. Katie still has a difficult time settling down at night to actually get to sleep, but she at least deals with it on her own, in her own space, and doesn't disrupt anybody else. She needs that time to quiet herself, and far be it for me to tell her to do it differently!

kerc - they are the same, so I am not sure what you mean. I am a designer. I am a Fashion Designer. No difference in level of seriousness, for me.

Geo - you know I hold you in the absolute highest regard. And please take me seriously when I say that I am aware, if a cataclysmic event were imminent, and the President decided to squirrel some people on a shuttle to space so that our species would survive, a Fashion Designer would not be on the list. A geophysicist? Welcome aboard! I do think it takes all types of people and talents to make the world go 'round, so, while I am glad my parents did not balk at my choice of college major, I know I am not saving lives or curing cancer or teaching children. Some days, believe me, I really wish that were the case!

Now, I have a toile to design, stat.

Dingo t-shirt anyone?

edited because I'm not sure I added any clarity.

I have fabulously clean carpets! At least until I go pick the dog up from daycare and he starts making a disaster out of them again... I was pretty impressed by the guy I hired. He was a recommendation from a friend. I usually use Stanley Steemer but I have been totally unimpressed by the quality of service compared to their increasing prices as of late, so I figured I would try this guy. It took him more than twice as long as it usually takes them to do it, which I am guessing translates directly into him taking more time to do it right.

Fall is definitely in the air here today. It was downright cold this morning and is only in the 60's now. Which just seems odd given that it was 90+ yesterday! DS and I hung out on the balcony while the carpets were being cleaned and we had to bundle up with sweatshirts and blankets!

rr~4 miles with DS in the stroller. I am appreciating the fact that even though I feel like I'm taking it fairly easy, I'm still maintaining a somewhat respectable pace. I am NOT appreciating my bruised big toenail which still hurts like a mother. Tomorrow should be a rest day, so hopefully the day off will help it before Saturday's 18.

You can see that I'm catching up from a long time ago but whatever right? I've been quite happy with my deal with dd that she can watch tv while she's folding laundry. I hate folding, she loves tv, it's working great.

I hope her references check out because she sounds like the perfect nanny, the modern Mary Poppins.

So,
I ran today! Probably almost 3 miles - in 38 minutes . Well whatever, it's something. And I will continue, I've even been negotiating for the Run Ladies Run group to wait 15 minutes to head out so I can be there to start with them every Tuesday and Wednesday. I'll have no excuses if they agree.
So, anyway, here I am, ready to run without thinking.

s to those who need them and for easy and generally good behavior.

Geo and poppy, as another whose studies and work are in a creative field, yet who is not thus serving a Greater Purpose, and yet who has trained hard at the nuts and bolts of craft in order to achieve a mastery of aesthetic that makes me good at what I do...I understand. I really, really do.

And as I was working in the barn earlier today I was recognizing and appreciating the extent to which I am affected by design and aesthetic. Deeply, turns out.

I am decluttering. I got dd's room cleaned. Ds's is in a state beyond words. My allergies are protesting and I now have something like 4 loads of laundry. And my washer is broken.
