How much Tide to use?

I'm experimenting with my wash routine and considering using Tide. (I've done Crunchy Clean and Rockin' Green but want to see if Tide really does knock out ammonia as I've heard it does.) For those who use Tide, how much and what kind? Should I be using powder, or is liquid ok? I ran a load and filled up to the 2nd line with liquid, but then I had to do 5 hot rinses to get rid of the suds, so I'm guessing that was too much. Help!?

I just use a few tablespoons of liquid Tide Free and Clear. I start with a cold rinse with a cup of vinegar, then hot wash, followed by two cold rinses. That's for about 30 diapers (mixture of pockets and fitteds).

In a super sized load (highest water setting on my regular top loader) I use regular Tide powder up to the first line (on my powder scoop there are 3 lines, so up to the lowest one. I do a pre-rinse with 1/2-1 cup of vinegar, then a hot wash with soap and an extra rinse. I prefer powder to liquid.

I wash every day so usually about 12-15 diapers at a time. I use Tide Original powder and use about 3/4 of the way to the 1 line.

I wash ~14 diaper inserts, 2 covers, & 1 bag for a load. I use Tide Free & Gentle liquid filled to line 1 (the lowest) in the cap. I wash in hot with an extra rinse then do another hot wash cycle (no more soap) for a hot rinse.

I was just using a couple tablespoons, but the dipes were coming out stinky. I read that more soap (not less like everyone says) is OK & helps with the stinkies, so I upped it to line 1 & the stink is gone!

Ok, I bought some Tide powder today, but they only had HE. My washer isn't specifically an HE machine. Can I still use this, and would I use the same amount?

I'm wondering the same. I'm trying post #3s wash routine at the moment but only have HE/original scented Tide powder. I have a top loader that def isn't HE.

I'll let you know how they (diapers) come out. I washed inserts in bleach water separate and rinsed 4x on cold earlier.

The only big thing different about HE detergent is that it is low sud. It creates fewer bubbles and you need less water to rinse it out of your wash. You can definitely use HE detergent in a non-HE machine, however you will need to use more detergent than the HE brand calls for. You use more water in a non-HE machine and therefore need more detergent to clean your clothes. Hope that makes sense!
