Pulmonary Function Test?

We are finally seeing the Allergist this Friday. They are going to do a chest x-ray and pulmonary function test. What is involved with the pulmonary function test?

there's a tube hooked up to computer with a mouth peice on the other end, they usually use these soft padded things to pinch the nose closed. The kid puts the mouthpiece in their mouth and usually there is an image of a birthday cake or something like that and you blow out the candles. That's pretty much it for just your average run of the mill PFT.

A PFT is the best way to diagnosis asthma. Often they will have the child perform a test, do breathing treatment, and perform another test; it measures whether or not there is any response to the medicine.

You might want call pulmonary lab and make sure they have pediatric experience, especially if your son has any other SN. It's not a hard test, but does require the child to be able to follow simple directions. Good luck, it sounds
like you have a very thorough doctor. Too may pediatricians hear a wheeze and give out asthma meds without being sure.

This is at a Pediatric Allergist office. So I think we will be good.

The last Ped appointment they did a breathing treatment and we pretended my son was a storm trooper. He is a big Star Wars fan.
