So happy to find other chicken people here!

Hi! I've been reading awhile but never really felt like posting until now! I have a 3 (just turned 3 a couple days ago) year old girl, an american bulldog, 2 Ameraucanas, 1 Easter Egger, 4 Australorps, and 2 bantam cochins.

Last year I had Silver Spangled Hamburgs and that was an adventure... those are some wild birds! I ended up selling them and getting this flock this year, the hamburgs were gorgeous but HIGH maintenance. This year my chickens are not nearly as smart but far more sensible. And we're getting the most beautiful eggs now- really pretty bright blue from the Ameraucanas/EE and also a lovely brown from the Australorps. Much happier with this year's chickens. Oh yeah- we live in the woods and they free-range every 3rd day or so. That's what I've found works best for us.

Nice to meet you all!

Welcome I don't post here a ton but wanted to extend a hand to a newcomer

I am the opposite of you in that I started with the tame ones (EE'ers, GLW, RIR, BO) and this year branched out with a few Pumpkin Hulsey game birds when I got my order of Black Copper Marans. They are savvy little creatures those gamers! I'm having fun with them so far, they are a thing of beauty to watch. Excellent fliers though... and the chicken zone is right next to my garden! eeeeeek!

Thank you for the nice greetings! Erinz- It seems like I've heard the name pumpkin hulsey before but I don't know anything about them at all or what they look like. I'll have to go look them up! I almost got some marans (is the plural maranss? ) this year but they were the wrong ages and I just didn't have the energy right then to start with brand new chicks when my older ones were about 8 weeks. That's on my wish list though for sure!

Even though those hamburgs were so much trouble and at times I really did hate them because they were so difficult, because of that we really got to be pretty close and I miss them now. BUT things are much more calm now and that's not a bad thing.
