More Questions about Fertility drugs??? Please help ladies

Ok, I just got a new OBGYN and she put me clomid starting next cycle and then told me I do not need the metformin anymore because the clomid would induce ovulation. At first I was like awesome I hate the metformin. Then I started doing some research and every thing I read said that since I have PCOS I should take metformin indefinately. I took it with my first baby because my doc said it would reduce the risk of miscarriage(which I know is true). Metformin helped me concieve the first time but this time has done nothing for me. I am a little scared to get off it.

Ok, so I had a physical done before I started taking metformin this time and my insulin levels were normal. I asked my regular docs office (the lab) and they said I have been tested for insulin resistance every year and it has always came back within normal limits. She said there is no reason to think I have any type of blood sugar problems. So do you think my PCOS is just effecting me differently than most women? Do you think I will have a healthy pregnancy without it even though I do have PCOS? I took it for only 12 weeks with my first pregnancy. When they took me off the metformin I did a diabetes test about 16 weeks and it came back normal.

Do you think its true that I most likely don't need the metformin? I know not very many of you are doctors, but I do know you ladies research and study more things about pregnancy than most doctors.

Not all women with PCOS are insulin resistant. That's the funny thing about PCOS, its a very broad term for a large number of symptoms. Some women have no periods, some have looooong periods, some are skinny, some are overweight and the list goes on and on. I genuinely feel that if more research were done into the issue we would discover (as we did with autism) that we are using one term to describe several disorders. That said, if you don't need to take the metformin then I wouldn't.

Congrats on the Clomid, my fingers are crossed for you mama!

While agree that you may have a different form of PCOS that does not include insulin resistance I think that OBGYNs don't know much about metformin and fear it. At least that is the bead I got from the ones I've seen.

Yes I have seen this as well but my doctor is actually very familiar with it. She was actually recommended to me by a midwife that works with her. She did say that she doesn't think I need it because my levels are fine and she thought that it didnt help me get preggo the first time(i do though) and she doesnt think it is helping anything this time either. And I don't know if anyone else is having this problem but metformin actually makes me so tired I can't keep my eyes open. I am a little nervous about stopping it because I have heard it lowers the risk of miscarriage but that is something I will have to address at a later time.

Thanks so much for your comments and support.
