Help! Just broke out in itchy rash all over!

I'm about 10.5 weeks pregnant, and as I was sitting at the computer, my face started feeling like it was getting slightly hot. I looked in the mirror to find a huge rash all over my face and saw that it was also on my neck and shoulders. I thought maybe it was from something I touched in the garden and then spread to my face, but as I got undressed, I noticed more rashes on the rest of my body, which I definitely hadn't touched with my hands. I jumped in the bath and took some sodium ascorbate while my husband went to the store for some Benadryl.

The rashes are large patches, not raised, no bumps, just pink/red splotches, moderately itchy and hot-feeling. They're concentrated at joint areas like my knuckles, knees, hips, elbows, armpits, but also cover a lot of my arms, upper back, and face. There aren't any rashes on my trunk, abdomen, or lower legs.

Any ideas what could have caused this? I had just finished eating some scrambled eggs when it happened, but I eat them all the time. We moved into a new house a couple weeks ago that used to have cats, which I'm allergic to, but I haven't reacted since we've been here aside from a little stuffiness. We also just had some carpet cleaned (by a reputable "green" company) up in the 3rd floor attic, but I've been on the main floor all day, and it seems I would've reacted sooner.

It's been about 1/2 hour since it happened and the rashes have stopped itching and are almost gone. I'd like to figure out whatever caused it so I can avoid it in the future!

Wow, that sounds lie, it sucks. I would tell your care provider even if it goes away. Maybe ask them for some help identifying types of rashes so if it comes back you can figure out more about it.

So glad it seems to be cooling down

Thanks! I don't have a care provider yet . We're interviewing midwives this week. I'm assuming pregnancy is making me more sensitive to something I normally wouldn't react to, but hopefully this isn't a recurring issue.

I had this in the first trimester of this pregnancy. My MW said it can be a normal symptom of pregnancy. Good Luck!
