Co-sleeping and pillow top mattresses

We just got a king-sized bed from my sister, which I was thrilled about until I discovered that it is a pillow top. Ugh. Is there any way to make our bed more firm? Has anyone ever flipped the pillow top over and slept on it upside-down? Doing a co-sleeper is actually more complicated now too, because the king is so large that I'm not sure we could fit a co-sleeper in the bedroom, and because the new bed is so high (due to the frame and because it's a thick mattress) that I don't think we could get a cosleeper adjusted high enough to line up. I still have 6 months to figure it all out but I'm frustrated with our complications!

We have a pillowtop and have coslept on it, but not with a newborn. I'm not sure how we're going to work it with our next baby but it might be ok, it's flattened out significantly.

We also have a cosleeper (the larger arms reach one) and it still attaches to the bed just fine but the cosleeper mattress is several inches below the bed mattress. The top of the cosleeper doesn't even reach the bed mattress but it still works just fine.

elus - thanks for the info. I guess if we can't get the cosleeper completely lined up, that wouldn't be the end of the world. I'm almost wondering if would be easier to sidecar a crib. Don't they have more of a range of height adjustments for the mattress?
