Yogurt Drink?

So, I was exploring a newly discovered grocery store the other day and saw a half gallon of locally produced "Yogurt Drink" with Arabic writing on the label. I though, why not, especially since it was half the price of the (smaller) bottle of kefir i was going to buy. Well, it may be a strange pregnancy-related craving or something, but I had a hard time not drinking the entire half gallon in one shot. It is so good. Like a salt lassi, but thinner. The ingredients on the label: "Cultured pasteurized skim milk and cream, water, whey protein concentrate and salt. Contains live active yogurt cultures (S. Thermophilus, L. Bulgaricus, L. Acidophilus)."

Is this just a salty delicious drink with little nutrition value or actually worth seeking out again?

If I was going by the ingredients only, it would be something I would buy. Going by the description of the taste (salty milk), I would gag and move on. LOL

Seriously, it looks like a decent product for being pasteurized.

I make Lassi at home all the time.

I'm not sure if that is what you found... Have you been able to google the drink brand itself?

I have been a dairy fiend the whole last half of my pregnancy. I have beautiful, sweet, raw guernsey milk in the fridge at all times. But I also find myself drinking lassis whenever possible, adding salt to cottage cheese (and eating nearly the whole pint at once...), lots of plain yogurt and kefir. Something about the cold salty milk products... I agree it could be an acquired taste (I gave a friend a taste of my lassi when we were having lunch together and the look on her face said enough). It feels right though, so I'm sticking with it!

The distributor of the drink I bought is Ziyad, a local company. I guess it doesn't actually say where it is made... The brand is Dana.

OK, it looks like the actual drink is called Ayran, and is Turkish in origin.

ETA: THANK YOU for the lassi recipe!

Can you get black salt? I can't remember the name of it now... but it's pinkish black and it has a distinct smell too it. Kinda like sulfur. Anyway, it's wonderful in a salt lassi, just a small pinch and it is my understanding that it is beneficial especially for women. Just a thought.

Here is a link I found on it:

Yes, it looks like my local Indian supermarket has it and cheap. I have a bag of "Hawaiian Black Sea Salt" that I bought at Trader Joe's a long time ago... It looks like it's just sea salt with activated charcoal added. I'm guessing not the same thing?

Probably not. I bought it when I was living in an community with a large Indian population. I never asked what was in it, it was just black salt. I don't think activated charcoal would have that kind of smell or taste. But I could be wrong. Thanks for the link too. I wish we had one of those stores nearby.
