STTN and no pee

Hey All,

My 9 week DS is a fantastic sleeper. On average he sleeps 8-9 hours at night. These last few nights though, he hasn't wet his diapers at night. He has plenty of wet ones during the day and feeds regularly. He is gaining weight.

Would you be concerned?

Do you cloth or disposables? On a disposable it can be hard to tell if they wet sometimes, if you pull the lining back you can usually see where they did. I'm not sure if its considered a problem or not, hopefully someone can help you!

As long as he's healthy, he may be trying to tell you he wants to EC. After he wakes up, try holding him over the potty or leave him diaper free for a bit.

My Cecilia has started doing this both with night time and naps. So I bought a little Baby Bjorn potty for her, and sure enough, if I put her on it right after she wakes up, sure enough, she has a nice healthy pee. I didn't plan on ECing her, but she has decided she wants to do it herself! So far we haven't caught any poops on the potty, but I'm pretty casual about it and don't really care.

Totally normal. Babies don't normally pee when they're really asleep - just like you don't. Normally babies pee during those lighter stages of sleep, when they sort of wake up a little bit and start to get wiggly for a minute. As he gets older, he'll actually probably start peeing at night again, because they become more aware and they wake up more during those lighter sleep stages as they get older. If you are interested, I second the idea of just holding him over a potty when he wakes up. It's a nice, gentle introduction to the idea of peeing somewhere besides in a diaper.

oooo thanks all for the great advice. I'll try tomorrow morning with holding him over the potty to see how that all goes. I was thinking about EC before he was born, but since I'm going back to work, I thought it would be a bit much for my nanny to have to do as well.

There's actually a hormone released when asleep that limits urine production too. With my daughter if she ever wakes up completely in the night I'm guaranteed about 30 minutes awake while she pees about three times.. then she sleeps instantly again. If she doesn't wake no pee until she wakes. She's almost 8 months now.
