I am guessing they're pants made of wool? How do they work over CDs? with or without covers? What happens when the wool gets wet, are they really practical? How do you wash them? Isn't the wool itchy for the babe? Don't they get stretched out? I am baffled by longies, please enlighten me, my boy is due in December it will be cold, should I get some longies? Help, so many questions!! Thanks mamas!!

They are pants made out of wool. They are the cover. Not itchy, But they do stretch. Hand wash every few weeks unless they get poopie, which will also resolve the stretching.

My guy lived in longies last winter when he was stationary. This winter he will again, and he'll be walking by then.

I'm curious about these as well. I'm newer to knitting and would really like to make some. How does the actual filler stay in? Do you use pre-folds with a snappi? I only ask because we have been using pockets and they get so stinky and need to be stripped so often that I'd like to try something else....

There's no "filler" - it's not like a pocket dipe. It's a separate cover, and requires a diaper under it. I don't like using a Snappi under knit, if i'm using a snappi, i use a cover that won't snag. I use fitteds under my longies.

Like Cristeen said, there is no filler. It's just a wool cover in the form of longies.

I have used a prefold + snappi under mine. They work just fine. Here's a freebie knitting pattern:http://www.tinybirdsorganics.com/org...woolpants.html

And the best tutorial for lanolizing wool on the cheap with easy to access products:
