I love the name. Isn't it the name of Claudia Schiffer's son? I like the spelling Caspar.

DH's (and now my) last name phonetically is KAS-PER-ZAK. (It's Polish.) However, that isn't close to how you spell it.

I am a teacher and I used to teach new kids my name my saying:

"I'm Mrs. "KASPERZAK", KASPER, as in the friendly ghost, and ZAK, like a boy's name." They NEVER understood the friendly ghost part!

FWIW, I love the spelling "Kaspar."

I wouldn't do it. But then again, I'm naming my baby "Oswyn" and we're calling him "Ozzy", rotfl, and I've already got some comments on that-- "So, uh, are you fans of Ozzy Osbourne?" Nope-- just love the name.

So, go with what you want. To hell with what anyone thinks. Who knows what will or will not be popular by the time the kid is in school.

And give him a good middle name just in case he hates his name, haha.

thats always a good tip.

My son is Matthias... he can go by Matt, or his middle name Edward... if he really dislikes having an abnormal name (in Europe and some parts of the US Matthias is a totally normal name, but where he was born and where we live now its very abnormal)

DDs name is very unusual and her middle name is Jean if she really ends up disliking it (but so far she says she loves her name, both because it is beautiful and because of the emotional meaning behind it, being my mothers middle name)

DD-on-the-ways name will be Maeryn... if she dislikes her whole name she can go by Mae or by her middle name (also Jean)

I keep thinking of that movie, Kids or Kidz however its spelled.. movie gave me nightmares.. and the character named Casper at first seems like a sidekick, but in the end does something HORRIBLE..

That's what I think if too. I now have the Daniel JOhnston song about Casper the friendly ghost going through my head. It's on the kids movie soundtrack.
