I'm a good mother because...

my daughter is eating an apple, and she doesn't even mind!

Seriously, I appreciate the compliment, and I do think I'm a pretty good mother, but don't most kids eat apples??? (And if my DD didn't, why would that be my fault?)

Has anyone else gotten these funny parenting compliments that just leave you ?

Lol, yep. All the time.

My DD loves apples So do I. We're a bunch of weirdos, I suppose

Ds plays REALLY well by himself. I feel it's more to do with his personality but I guess I'll take credit.

"Mind" eating an apple? That one has me scratching my head. Around here, apples are a fantastic treat, not some kind of chore.

I get lots of compliments on my daughter's relatively healthy eating habits and well developed culinary palate.

I think we might think of something relatively simple and healthy like an apple as something most kids eat, but in reality people are relying more and more heavily on processed food products that are marketed for babies and toddlers, and less and less on fresh, whole foods to the point that even fruit that hasn't been minced and freeze-dried and put in a jar with a flip-top lid is "weird" and we're seen as lucky or exceptional parents if our kids will eat it.

I know there are kids in my relatively close family and circle of friends that I have literally never witnessed eating a fresh, raw fruit or vegetable. They went from formula or breast milk to jarred baby food, then those freeze dried puff snacks and other packaged 'first foods', then applesauce and hot dogs, then Happy Meals

My daughter is allowed to have fast food occasionally, just in the interest of full disclosure, but she also eats fresh fruits and vegetables, aged cheeses, Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Mexican, etc. and asks for apple cider vinegar and hemp seeds on her veggies

To me its one of those really dumb conversation small talk compliments. I throw them in the same as the ones that say good for you for breastfeeding or not using any form of drugs while giving birth.

Ha, that is funny. And yeah, I thought apples were fairly standard kid food. Although I admit that I once said, "Oh, fun! Who is babysitting your DD?" when a friend told me they were going for sushi that night.

I get told I'm a "good mom" because DS doesn't like french fries or soda. It's nothing of my doing -- he just doesn't happen to like potatoes in any form (which is kind of frustrating actually, because I looooove potatoes and cook them often) or any carbonated drinks. In a couple years when those same people see DD eating french fries, I guess I'll get demoted from my "good mom" status.

caden won't touch apple does that mean i'm bad lol he will eat raisins and sultans though, but thats the only fruit he will eat if he had his way he'd live on breast milk, cheese and raisins lol.
my others all love fruit though, most kids do though don't they at nursery/groups here it's given as a treat for snack time.

DD (19 mos) is a super confident and outgoing little girl. I get the "you must be doing everything right, because your dd is so happy and friendly!". I always say thank you, but inside I worry that the my next kid will be temperamental and fussy and everyone will think I'm a crappy mom!
