Strange cursing?

Thread Starter
Preface: DH and I do not swear around the house and rarely even use that tone. Lately, when DS is angry, he yells, "Poksch!" Or sometimes it sounds like, "Pox!" Sometimes he uses it in a sentence to describe something he dislikes, as in, "Oatmeal is POKSCH!" He's quite verbal, but we just can't figure out what this word is. Is it entirely fabricated? Does he just lack the proper curse word to express himself? He goes to daycare twice a week, and they haven't heard him say it and claim that none of the other kids say it either. It's almost funny, but we have to restrain our laughter - I don't want to encourage it. Any advice on DIScouraging it? Thanks.

I think verbal people kind of instinctively know when they don't have the proper word to describe the strength of their feelings. Kids, who don't have access to swear words, have to compensate somehow. My DS is 4.5 and often uses something that sounds like "Bursh!" when he is especially irritable.

Fabricating your own "curse" word sounds like a good way to avoid using real ones that could get you in trouble at school. My 4.5 year old has been growling lately if she gets very angry. Saying "Poksch!" sounds more socially appropriate.

I think it's great! It's like saying, "oh, fudge!" instead of you know what I would ignore it...
