How Many Pregnancy-Related Health Issues Can One Woman Have?!

Luckily, none have been serious... but today I was thinking of all the little health issues I've had over the past nine months that have turned out to be directly blamed on being pregnant. If my husband had to go through all this instead of me, we would surely be childless! Yes, I know... I get a wonderful little person for all my troubles, but sheesh -- this pregnancy was way worse than my previous two.

Here's a list, from common to uncommon. This doesn't even include the weight gain or breast sag. And I haven't even given birth yet, the hardest part. BEWARE, severe whininess ahead!

- morning sickness
- stretch marks
- heartburn
- brown discoloration on my face (AKA melasma or "pregnancy mask")
- hemorrhoids
- migraine with flashing visual disturbances
- sinus stuffiness
- hip/pelvic pain
- skin tags (in underarms)
- nighttime leg cramps
- pitting edema in feet/ankles
- oral thrush
- red bumps & spidery veins on tummy/chest (AKA "cherry/spider angiomas")
- ingrown toenails
- pyogenic granuloma (AKA "pregnancy tumor")

I know lots of women have serious complications, and actually I'm lucky. Here's wishing all you mamas easy, healthy pregnancies!

I've had...

mild morning sickness (never threw up thankfully)
heartburn
brown patches on my legs (had them before pregnancy but they're darker)
hemorrhoids
headaches (had one last two weeks!)
sinus stuffiness
pain in my left hip (the right was already in pain)
skin tags (back of the knees!)
charlie horses in my back that last 20+ minutes
VERY itchy skin on my chest (absolutely nothing helps )
ingrown toenails (this is really pregnancy related?)
indigestion
difficulties controlling my appetite
Diastasis recti (separation of the abdominal muscles)
Trouble sleeping more than 5 hours at a time
Veiny legs
Near-fainting
Exhaustion with mild exertion
Non-specific Anxiety

And I'm only 22 weeks!
When I'm not actively suffering its quite fun though. When it doesn't make me nauseous its awesome having a little person living inside of me. I don't think I'll volunteer to do it again soon but it will be a time to reminisce about. My belly button is perfectly flat right now and its extremely entertaining.

Oh my, WifeofAnt... your list is long for 22 weeks!

I read that ingrown toenails during pregnancy can happen as your feet enlarge, your shoes don't fit as well, and it gets harder to reach/trim your toenails. I never had them until this pregnancy, so it seems related to me!

Hope your pregnancy complaints get eaiser... take care!

I'm 20wk tomorrow, and I've had:

nausea
stuffy sinuses
heartburn
abdominal separation
back pain
can't sleep through the night
circulation issues (in my left arm only!)
lots of ligament pains
Braxton Hicks already
TERRIBLE SKIN!
and the ankle I sprained @4 weeks is getting worse instead of better

Plus, this anterior placenta is making it difficult to get fully "connected" to the person who is supposedly wriggling around in there!

Ladies, I feel you. Sometimes I wish I were one of those ladies on the show "I didn't know I was pregnant."

My "morning sickness" lasted until about 30 weeks. That seemed pretty bad all on its own, but maybe around 22 weeks or so I got stretch marks of doom, which by last week turned into PUPPP.

I have only had mild heartburn and a little bit of edema, but MY LORD, just the first two alone are enough to make me need some seeeeeerious forgetting time before I can contemplate having a second baby.

Wishing you all happy, healthy, better-feeling times ahead!

to all!

I had SUCH an easy pregnancy last time. Right now I'm 24 weeks and I had horrible morning sickness until, I dunno, 17 weeks? And I've been in bed for going on a month now, with TERRIBLE sciatic nerve pain. I can't feel my pinky toe, and for a couple weeks I was in SO much pain, just being in bed or trying to move a tiny bit, let alone get to the bathroom, meant lots of crying. I am hoping that is IT b/c I have totally paid in full with this

ETA: I meant an easy one LAST time, not this time!

Currently at 24 weeks 3 days:
Numb hands
Leaking nipples
swollen feet, ankles and fingers (can only wear a worn out pair of jogging shoes loosely laced and it's painful to make a fist)
leg and back muscle fatigue
occasional cramps in abdomen
frequent urination
headaches
waking in the middle of the night feeling "starving"
crotch pain (I think from the downward pressure of the bigger belly and the many miles I walk each day.)
spider veins
Morning nausea
Almost constant heartburn that causes me to puke up a little acid about 100 times a day
a little sadness about not being able to do usual summer activities like mountain climbing and mountain biking
some worry that I'm boring DH with how little I can do

Every morning about 40 people at work ask me how I'm feeling. Truthfully, I feel like crap, but I respond, "Okay." I keep reminding myself to look on the bright side. On the plus side, my hair, skin and nails have never looked better.

-allergies have gotten really bad
-headaches
-complete exhaustion
-inability to tolerate heat (and lucky me, we have had the worst heat wave in years)
-acne
