pertussis - how long is it contagious?

We were planning to visit family this weekend, but have learned that they have pertussis (confirmed case). Even if we don't see the ones actually affected, are we still at risk if others have been exposed?

My parents were exposed to the sick kids but are not sick - how long until they're no longer carrying the bacteria?

Is their (parents) house contagious? Can the bacteria live on toys/furniture? If so, how long?

TIA & if more info is needed, let me know!

The incubation period is more than a week - maybe 10-12 days? So, my personal comfort level would be not to visit for 2 weeks to make sure your parents or other relatives aren't also going to get sick. Even if they are vaccinated they may still get it.

I'd have to look up how long it lives on a surface, but honestly I wouldn't risk it since you have a little one. (Probably not what you wanted to hear)
